Default Zen and the Art of Poker

I did a search for this but I couldn't find much. Zen and the Art of Poker is written by Larry Phillips.

I just got the book and have read about 30 pages. I am just finding myself shaking my head at a lot of comments in this book. Perhaps it is out-dated, or the style Phillips uses does not appeal to me. Either way, I finished reading The Poker Mindset only days ago and picked up Zen and the Art of Poker straight after. TPM is infinitely better... there is no match.

Does anyone share this view or held a different view?

I'd really love to hear everyone's thoughts.

Best wishes.

I got the Zen book when I first started playing poker.

I agree with you. It is a not a good book although it slightly helped my patience waiting for starting hands when I was a beginner at poker.

I don't think that the Zen book is worth buying or reading though.

If I had not read The Poker Mindset beforehand I am sure I would have managed to get through and taken something away from this book. Unfortunately, I am really struggling with it mostly because everything it sets out to accomplish I had already learnt from TPM. Some of the proverbs are neat but the poker content that it does touch on is off the mark.

I don't think Zen and the art of poker is out-dated, I just think it takes a different approach to poker strategy than you might be used to. Probally comprable to some of Shoonmaker's books, but better written and more consise.
