Default Studious Player - Diversify or Specialize?

Hi all -

Does anyone feel that it was still valid for the studious beginning player to diversify when learning games? Sklansky mentioned this in Poker, Gaming, & Life before the explosion of Internet Poker and the fact that a good game in your specialty is almost always available (up through mid limits, anyway, even after the US crackdown).

I'm looking to get back into poker after a brief hiatus (e.g. when I left, pokerstars had just started with stud) and was wondering if I should be rotating between the nanolimits of several different games vs. just, say, limit hold'em.

I think I'd enjoy playing different games, just wanted to see if any of you thought it was a terrible idea.

Mike

Default Re: Studious Player - Diversify or Specialize?

I prefer to learn one game to a reasonable level before deciding to donk it up in another....basically I think its better to get good at one game and then branch out and the rampup should get better the more games you add. Its good to have a solid home base to come back to IMHO

that being said, if you feel the need to try a new game then just do it...probably at a lower stake whilst you learn the ropes. for me, diversifying is more about keeping poker interesting because grinding it out can get rather boring and learning a new game/skill can add a spark to the grind
