What to wear to an industry conference

I'll be attending a conference in FL for the first time. I have no idea what people wear to these things: khakis and polos? suit pants and button-down shirts (or khakis and shirt)? tie, no tie?

Khakis and polos are usually fine for that sort of thing. If you're in Florida, note that the AC will be cranked up, so even though it's hot outside you might want to carry a light jacket for the freezing meeting rooms you'll sit in.
