Default Question for Pro-Choicers

Say that tommorow it is announced that there is a procedure which is less invasive than the standard abortion but which would allow for the fetus to survive outside the biological mothers womb. How the fetus survives is irrelevant, the fetus could be transplanted to another woman or an incubator of some kind. To the Pro-choicers, would the woman have a right to choose what happens to the fetus after it is outside of her? Put another way, does a woman have the right to choose to end her pregnancy or does she have the right to choose the destiny of her fetus?

I believe Sklansky asked this same question, either here or in SMP a while ago.

As I recall it Sklanskys question dealt with the arbitrainess of the definition of life. What im tryng to get at here is, when someone calls themself pro-choice, what is the choice that you believe women have a right to? Is it the choice to terminate the pregnancy, or is it the choice to do whatever you want with whatever comes out of your body?

This isn't an issue I particularly care too much about, but I think that pro-choicers assert that women have the right to do whatever they want with what's inside their body.

tell me, if tomorrow pigs could fly, and you could book a seat on Porcine Airways, would you choose First Class or Coach, and would it be immoral if they served hot dogs as the meal?

This question has just as much validity as yours.

If I'm screwing a girl, does she have a right to cut it off?

I don't know how useful this is, but I think I'd still favor the woman being able to terminate the pregnancy even if a procedure existed like you suggested.

I agree that a woman has a right to terminate her pregnancy. The question is does she also have a right to decide what happens to the fetus after doing so.

You mean does she have the right to decide whathappens to the dead fetus? Umm, I guess it would be medical waste, so no.

If the fetus was in someway delivered then obviously she wouldhave the samerights as any mother.

This seems too easy,

maybe I'm missing something

Assuming that the fetus could just as easily be aborted whitout killing it, does the woman have the right to decide which of the 2 paths to take?
