Default Diary of a Single Table Grinder

i'm a poor college student who isn't that good at poker, but i am good enough to win more than i lose most of the time. i bought in for 50 bucks some time in february, turned it into 300, and cashed out 200 of it some time in march. this was all done in $5 and $10 single tables (i despise playing cash games, and i basically do this for fun). since then i've played very little, but when i have it hasn't been particularly well. i found myself not having played in weeks the other day, and checked my balance to find $4.70 remaining. since i will likely be too lazy to make another deposit once my account runs dry, that $4.70 may as well be the stake for the rest of my poker career.

since that day, i've played three $1.20 single table tourneys, coming 1st, 2nd and 3rd in them, my balance now sitting at $10.10. my mission now: grind out $50 bucks playing the dollar singles, then move back to the exciting world of FIVE DOLLAR POKER, and god willing eventually TEN DOLLAR POKER, hopefully leading to another cashout of an amount of money that would be nice to have.

here i will document my story when i feel like it. since i will likely shade the events to ones tending to favor me, you can assume that if the posts ever stop, i busted. i'll try to be a good sport and let you guys know if that happens though in the interest of honest journalism.

And you will go bust at $1 SNGs; you need to play 1c/2c 6 max ring and work up. Buy in for $2.

If you're not planning to deposit again, don't move up until you have at least 20 buy-ins. I'd say 30 as you start to move higher than micro stakes (your ROI will start to drop at some point on the way up). Move down if you drop to 20 at the lower buy-in.

You'll play a lot better if you're not worried about going broke with only 10 buy-ins, and you won't be forced to move down so frequently.

Chris Ferguson is a year into a challenge he set himself - to build a roll from nothing to $10k by playing freerolls and then working up. He was up to $800 after the first year (don't know how many hours he was putting in). This is more or less what he did at the start of his poker playing career too. Check his articles on fulltilt (and possibly cardplayer too) on bankroll management when you're nursing a small and unreplenishable bankroll.

the advantage of this is that there is approx 65% chance OP will bust and then not continue this story.
