Default Unfounded Accusations Thread

Team,

while the original thread at http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showfl...=0#Post11160106 obvious got off tangent with the most absurd and blatant hijacks ever (and was deserverdly locked), there was actually a point to the original discussion - that there is a poster who is apparently throwing around unsubstantiated and serious accusations at people.

The accusations detract from online poker as a whole, as well as this site. Hyperbole about bots is clearly unproductive to the operations of 2p2, as well as recklessly causing harm to the victims of his accusations. One poster claims to have lost $70k as a result.

Can mods please communicate to him and others:

a) that throwing around unsubstantiated accusations is bad

and

b) that it should not be happening

and

c) if it continues, he will have the right to post revoked

Sure, there's a role for real discussion about bots - but not generating accusations because the poster doesn't "like" another player, as MrGatorade admitted in his most recent farce.

This is a huge misuse of these facilities, and should be stopped.

Josem,

Why don't you quit hugging Dean's nuts and let him crybaby for himself if he's not over it yet (and same for anyone else you are speaking for). Also, from what I have read, MrGator's attacking/accusing a player because of personal dislike is limited to one person, Dean. That doesn't mean he hasn't made other wrong accusations, but rather that they were most likely honest mistakes, and not made because of a personal dislike of someone known not to be botting.

On the issue as a whole, I grant that because MrGator and the sites won't discuss most details of their bot detection techniques, that a player so accused is left with trying to prove a negative, when the accuser should normally be the one with the onus to prove his accusation. But that is just an inevitable part of the issue or the sites would be allowing botters to adapt more quickly. Also it is worth noting that any botter is always going to lie, especially when he is using the method of only botting most of the time, while playing normally the rest.

I will grant that there should perhaps be a higher standard for accusing a known 2+2'er of botting, or other forms of cheating. But when it comes to some random sn that isn't known to be used by a 2+2'er, then 2+2 has no obligation to police such accusations, when the accuser isn't totally full of it and is taken seriously by the sites.

It hasn't run its course. There was no resolution of the issue of the original post of either that thread, nor this thread.

It turned into people arguing about some live poker scam and the appropriateness of using "jesus christ" as a way of expressing displeasure.

Incidentally, neither have any relevance to MrGatorade's shrill and inappropriate accusations.

I am not posting on behalf of Dean. or anyone else.

I am posting on behalf of myself, out of concern for the quite obvious consequences of generating repeated unsubstantiated hyperbole about bots that may or may not exist.

If MrGatorade or others do not wish bot detection methods to be discussed (as they appear to do so, and I understand their concern), they should not start threads and make posts about bot detection. It's quite an obvious and self-evident logical progression.

Banning MrGatorade would help him to keep his bot detection methods secret, and thus, be in his favour as well as those who want online poker to prosper in the future.
