Looking for a Kibbutz experience or similar

I have around 3 months till I will likely be going to university. Before that I would like to experience something different and meet new people and see a different country.

Traditionally, Kibbutz were the ultimate experience and it appears the odd Kibbutz website show that they're still going. However, I've heard limited advice saying that they suck now, but, was wandering if anyone has recent first hand experience and recommendations.

Whats out there? Im up for anything thats not too expensive and very open to suggestions which would be much appreciated.
