Re: Take the race?
This is a really great question.
I'm new to STT so would be very interested in the view of the experienced guys on this one. It seems lots of people suggest taking any adv in STT even if 55/45 because of the nature of the games. Therefore heads up it must be hard to fold a pocket pair unless its early in the tournement? |

Re: Take the race?
It's all about ICM. It's not like cash where you'd normally take a 55/45 every single time.
If big stack had 9000, you had 3000, and two small stacks each had 750 - you'd fold. Before the hand is dealt your chips are worth $30.07 - Player Chips Prob 1st Prob 2nd Prob 3rd Equity Player 1 9000.000000 0.6667 0.2689 0.0583 $42.57 Player 2 3000.000000 0.2222 0.4706 0.2422 $30.07 Player 3 750.000000 0.0556 0.1303 0.3498 $13.68 Player 4 750.000000 0.0556 0.1303 0.3498 $13.68 If you gamble and win they're worth $37 - Player 1 6000.000000 0.4444 0.4078 0.1288 $37.03 Player 2 6000.000000 0.4444 0.4078 0.1288 $37.03 Player 3 750.000000 0.0556 0.0922 0.3712 $12.97 Player 4 750.000000 0.0556 0.0922 0.3712 $12.97 If you gamble and lose they're worth $0. So you can win $7 or lose $30 by playing. You'll need to win the hand 4.3 times for every 1 time you lose to make this play profitable. That means you must be a (something like 82% - I suck at the conversion here) favorite preflop which isn't going to happen unless he flips over his cards and you have a monster (like KK vs. Q4o). |
