Default (NL5) JJ against maniac

Villain in question is a maniac, 87/36/2.2 over about 100 hands.

In the same session I played a hand earlier with him:

No-Limit Hold'em, $0.04 BB (10 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

saw flop|<font color="#C00000">saw showdown</font>

CO ($1.88)
<font color="#C00000">Button ($0)</font>
SB ($2.34)
<font color="#C00000">BB ($7.52)</font>
UTG ($3)
UTG+1 ($1.69)
UTG+2 ($4.33)
<font color="#C00000">Hero ($4.94)</font>
MP2 ($10.55)
MP3 ($4.94)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
<font color="#666666">3 folds</font>, Hero calls $0.04, <font color="#666666">3 folds</font>, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($0.14) 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(4 players)</font>
SB checks, BB checks, <font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $0.2</font>, SB folds, BB calls $0.20.

Turn: ($0.54) J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
BB checks, <font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $0.5</font>, BB calls $0.50.

River: ($1.54) 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
BB checks, Hero checks.

Final Pot: $1.54

Results in white below: <font color="#FFFFFF">
BB has Ks Kh (one pair, kings).
Hero has 9d 9h (one pair, nines).
Outcome: BB wins $1.54. </font>

In the hand above I thought I was ahead as I figured he'd raised anything that beats me except perhaps the flush, and I also thought that he wouldn't call with anything that I beat so I just checked behind on the river.

Then a few hands later we play the hand in question:

No-Limit Hold'em, $0.04 BB (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

saw flop|<font color="#C00000">saw showdown</font>

SB ($1.33)
<font color="#C00000">Hero ($5)</font>
UTG ($12.30)
UTG+1 ($5)

Preflop: Hero is BB with J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
UTG calls $0.04, <font color="#666666">3 folds</font>, MP3 calls $0.04, <font color="#CC3333">CO raises to $0.22</font>, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, Hero calls $0.18, UTG calls $0.18, MP3 calls $0.18.

Hero checks, CO checks.

River: ($2.50) 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
Hero checks, <font color="#CC3333">CO bets $5.52</font>, Hero ?

I know it would have made a lot of sense to reraise pf. Although I figured his pf raise would help to get the pot HU and that I would have easier decisions post flop once I know if there are a lot of over cards. Looking back though, I think I still should have raised.

The flop seemed fine, only one over card. His raise did bother me but I'm not folding to a minraise. The turn and river can't have helped him much, unless he happened to have A5 /56 for the straight or a back door flush - but even then his shove is weird. Do you call the river, and how would you play the hand?
