villain is unknown

Hows my river shove? Does he ever call?

He'll call with a 5, but he's unlikely to have one unless he has 75.

I think I'd bet around $35 to entice a call.

If the river didn't bring a 4-straight I like shoving.

i small value bet would be better here. that board is more likely to scare him than make him want to call you.

Well IMHO $35 s not maximising EV. There's not many hands he'll call 35 and not the all-in here, so the decision should be a small raise for some small extraction, or the all-in, not the middle ground to maximise EV.

I think I prefer $12 or so as the upper limit for extraction, as I can't see him checking with a 5. He might call $12 w/ a high pair or two pair though.

Sure, if villain is an idiot who hates money. I cannot see how would a donkey call a shove in this situation. Unless he had a 5, but even so, it is very unlikely. You are trying to represent a missed hand by your oversized bet. This may work against total idiots. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.
