Default Best place to play in Mississippi??

How's it going everyone? Been viewing these forums for the past month now and decided to register. Me and some buddies are looking to head to mississippi next month to play some poker. we are undecided between tunica and biloxi. we like to play 1/2NL cash games and tournaments with buyins from $60 to $300. Any advice on which city/casino to play at??? We will be there friday and saturday night. Thanks for any advice.

Well, that depends on where you are coming from & whether you are driving or flying. You realize Tunica & Biloxi are at opposite ends of the state right???

At any rate, each should have plenty of poker action to scratch any itch you have. Try the search function as I'm sure there are multiple threads on Tunica/Biloxi games. If you still can't find what you are looking for, ask more specific questions. I'm sure one of us can answer it.

For 1/2 NL you can just go to whichever town is closer.

Tunica and Biloxi are about 6-7 hours apart.
The games at 1/2 NL or the tourneys won't be so different that it will be worthwhile to drive any longer just for that reason.

In Tunica they have 1/2 NL at the Gold Strike and 1/3 NL at the Horseshoe and the Grand.
Gold Strike and Horseshoe are by far my preferred choices. You can call ahead to either one of those palces and get a special poker-rate just for playing a few hours a day.

LuckyTxGuy recently posted a very good and insanely lengthy Tunica trip-report that should give you some ideas.

He had a great time at Gold Strike.
I still prefer the room at the Horseshoe but it really depends on your mood and your own personal taste. Both are pretty well-run and worthwhile imo.

for more info on the tourneys being spread there you can go to msgaming.net and check out the tourney page.

The comps in tunica for free meals, buffets and burgers at the snack-bar, etc are easy to get in Tunica even for poker-players. Not sure about in Biloxi.

In Biloxi it sounds like the Beau Rivage is the place to go but it is probably a bit more expensive, especially on the weekends, and I'm not sure about the availability of a poker-rate there.

Maybe Imperial Palace down in Biloxi as a backup plan.
No idea how their poker-room is.

Micro I think you are talking about me....LuckyTxGuy....I could be wrong though.

I was going to say the same thing as Micro, not sure about the comps and room rates in Biloxi but they are super at Tunica. I have a buddy who spent the night in Biloxi a few weeks ago and played some $4/8 at the IP and he had a great time. He checked on the poker room rates and he said they were very expensive compared to what we stayed for in Tunica. I can't remember the exact prices but it's worth checking into. He also went over to the Beau Rivage but didn't have time to play there however, he said the place was VERY nice.

Tunica is fun if all you want to do is play poker/gamble. Memphis is 20-30 minutes away. Not sure what all is down near Biloxi but I know you've got the beach nearby if that interest you.

Luckytx - The room-rates and comps in Tunica might make it more worthwhile for this poster.

This is assuming it's a roughly equal drive from wherever he's coming from.
From Atlanta for example it should be roughly 6 hours to either (maybe one is a little faster, but not by a huge difference I think).

Not sure how plentiful the meal-comps are in Biloxi. But it doesn't surprise me at all that a special poker room-rate would be more expensive down there.

For a cheaper and better-value poker-only weekend then I guess Tunica would have to be the better choice. But this is assuming your weekend is going to be exclusively gambling-only.
If you intend on going out and doing something else on your trip then be aware that there is NOTHING else in Tunica. You will have to make the hike up to Memphis to go out on a weekend night or something.

thanks for the info guys. I am coming from atlanta micro, and figured they were both about 6 hours from me so it wasnt going to matter which one we went too. it is strictly going to be a gambling weekend, so with the info that i got on poker room rates, we may head to tunica instead because of that. thanks again guys

if you want that special poker room-rate then you need to call as soon as you can.
Don't put it off. you need to arrange the poker room-rate through the poker-room itself and sometimes you have to try to get a hold of the ONE person who arranges this stuff.

For 5 or 6 hours of play per day you can get a weekend room for $39/night or something that will regularly run you $100 or more (again, this is on the weekends).
Plus you just have to ask for a comp for the buffet or whatever and it should be no problem to get most/all your meals for free.

note that the Horseshoe poker room-rate now will be putting you up at the hotel at the Grand casino (I guess they are working on a lot of their hotel rooms at the Horseshoe so can't afford to put poker-players there).

The Grand is about a 5-10 minute drive away so this is kind of annoying.
Not a big deal obviously, but it's much nicer to just take your elevator to your room instead of a 5 minute drive especially if you're drinking.

The poker room-rate at the Gold Strike gives you a hotel-room actually AT the Gold Strike. So all you have to do is take the elevator. Easy.

Also note that the Gold Strike and the Horseshoe are practically attached to each other. They are literally just a few feet apart so it's easy to walk between the two and check out both casinos and poker-rooms.

I'm not a big fan of the Grand's poker-room and I know many on this forum agree with me.
Even though there are a total of 5 poker-rooms in Tunica many think that the HS and GS are easily the most worthwhile and the Grand is a somewhat distant 3rd.

FWIW, if you are coming from Atlanta you'll be in good company. I have played with many folks from that area in the Tunica card rooms. Every weekend it seems I meet somebody from Atlanta.
