How Degenerate Is This?

After a long day in San Francisco (breakfast meeting, lunch with El D, court hearing, family function) on Wednesday, I raced to the airport to catch at 10:20 United flight to Vegas. I arrive at 9:40, only to find to my great dismay that the flight has been canceled. United's option for getting me to the WSOP, they said, left at noon the next day -- too late to play the $5K six-max. So, after spending a useless hour waiting in their customer service line and calling every other airline I can think of to get here in time, all to no avail, I dejectedly head out to the taxi line to catch a cab to Mrs. Treesong's mom's house in the SF area.

The cabbie asks me where I'm going. "Daly City. But I really want to go to Vegas."

"That'll be $1000, you pay for gas."

"Drive."

I manage to fall fast asleeep on the back seat and arrive here rather refreshed but full of a sense of my own degeneracy. How much of a degenerate am I?

Seven hours. Seemed like less than one: I was out like a light, and woke up briefly only when we stopped for gas.

like say you have a 10k bankroll its beyond massively degen, but if you have like a 1million bankroll its not degen, unless you consider that its a taxi not a limo you are riding in

This seems fairly reasonable, miss flight, take a cab. Let's rate this degeneracy by the factor you've been ripped off a flight from SF to LV runs maybe $ 60? Degenerate! Nice story though.

M: FYI, one way last minute plane fare SF->LAS is $150 to $200.

Howard: You almost certainly could have taken a 6am-ish flight the next morning. If United direct was sold out, you could have connected via LA and made it in time. You also probably could have flown Southwest direct in the morning from OAK or San Jose. And if Southwest was sold out, the stronger degen move is to just buy a southwest ticket to get you in the terminal, then buy some guy's LAS boarding pass off him at the gate.
