Default another OOT list thread - essential American music

I know this is 7 years old, but over the 4th of July I was trying to think of the most outstanding American music, and I think this list does a pretty good job. It was compiled by NPR as "100 of the most important American musical works of the 20th century." Since this contains more than pop music, there will probably be several entries that most OOTers aren't familiar with, so it could be a good start for branching out musically.
