Default Summary of Sklansky on Razz:

Always slowplay.

Summary of SCSFAP:

Always fast play.

This finally explains why I am getting crushed playing .25/.50 razz (-1.3BB/100 after 9000 hands) and crushing $75/150 stud in AC (up 50K last month).

Second only to Badugi, razz is the most boring poker game I have yet to play in my life.

I hate razz but I imagine it is like eating spinach, you hate it but it is good for you.

I will not rest until I have mastered .25/.50 razz or jumped off of a bridge...which ever comes first.

I hate razz.

That is all.

goodnight.

Carlos.

Playing 9000 hands of 25/50 cent Razz shows an incredible dedication to poker. I am somewhat curious as to why you are torturing yourself to play so much of it, is it a regular part of AC mixed games or something?

LOL I was going to post something similar a week or so ago
but I am not really that good at Razz and certainly no good at Stud.

I've enjoyed the Razz discussions anyway and, while you may put in
a few too many bets, thinking about some of the hands has enlightened
me on spots where I put too few in.

Cheers,
Tx.

I can't understand how someone who obviously is a good Razz student is doing that poorly for that long at .25/.50.

1. Is the effect of the rake down there perhaps causing that?
2. If you're playing $75/$150 and $.25/$.50, maybe those stakes are way too low to be meaningful at all to you. Perhaps you should move up to $1/$2 or $2/$4 or something?

Well, Matt (grapes) told me that the high limit razz games on Full Tilt are very good, even up to 200/400. Since the stud games now suck online, I figured I should learn razz.

Also, razz is a really good way for me to improve the weakest part of my game, which is slowplaying and and not being the aggressor in a hand.

I want to play HORSE tournaments.

There is a 200/400 razz/stud/S8 game at commerce in LA that has been replacing the 100/200 stud. I am planning on moving to LA in a year or two, so I need to be able to play razz for this game.

Lastly, it is fun to have a challenge...stud is kind of like work now. It is a great game, but anything gets boring if you do it too much.

It is simply because I am too aggressive, I believe. The rake has some significance: I have paid $72 in rake and am down $58 total, so actually without the rake I am slightly better than break even.

The money doesn't mean anything to me. I play just as hard playing for play money against my grandmother as I do playing 200/400 against Danny Robison. It is more about the competition, challenge, and strategy. I do play worse when I am bored or unchallenged, though...but that hasn't happened much with razz yet.

Carlos, if you don't mind my asking, how did you build up your Stud bankroll? It seems nearly impossible to make a significant amount of money playing Stud online (due to the relative lack of active tables, particularly at higher limits), so I'm assuming it was largely from live play?

Wrong, mostly online. I've played for 4 years.

1st year-2-4 through 10/20 on party no live play
2nd year: 20/40 pound game on cryptologic, so heads up 30/60 on stars and 50/100 on royal vegas. I lost about 20K play live 15-30 through 75/150.
3rd year: made a small profit playing 30/60 on party. made small profit playing 75/150 and 150/300 live.
4th year: I don't play much online now. I'm making a large profit playing 40/80 and 75/150 live...no more 150/300.

It isn't part of any mixed games in AC as it is currently ILLEGAL to play razz in any AC casino. Apparently if you want to be an outlaw poker player these days, you have to play razz in NJ
