THIS ISN\'T POKER!
I've been comfortably two-tabling for a few months now. Yesterday I got a new 22" wide format flat screen monitor, so I figured I'd give four tables a try since now I can run four tables with no overlap.
Well, I did it, and I've got to say what I did ain't poker. It was frantic, it was spastic, it was the best cardio workout I got since I was chased by that dog last month... But it wasn't poker. (I DID manage to go all-in, TWICE, and double up each time. Got to love ROCKETS!) Anyway, I was thinking of moving up in stakes, but then I started thinking maybe I should just add more tables since I only play two at a time. I found the move from one table to two very easy, and it actually helped my game. Since it gave me more to think about I actually keep my mind in the game and not on what I might be missing on TV. I figured the move from two to four wouldn't be that much tougher. After all there's only twice as much to think about, right? Well, later I might give three tables a try, but I think four tables is something for later this summer. How some of you guys do 12+ tables at a time, of 6-Max, I'll never know... |

Re: THIS ISN\'T POKER!
If you're talking about the 12 tablers on FTP, they're just bots.
*edit* For a serious response, I completely agree with you. I have no idea how the 10+ table guys do it. Personally, I can do up to about 6 tables of full ring but it gets hectic when I get playable hands post flop on 3 or more of the tables. I've never thought about it before but I suppose it's memorization of certain situations vs. thinking through them. The 12 tables probably have more of an automatic reaction for situations and don't really think the hand through as thoroughly. If you really want to increase tables but want some practice with it first, (people will hate me for saying this) but try short-stacking. It reduces the difficulty of your decisions and the number of hands you will be playing. |

Re: THIS ISN\'T POKER!
Playing multiple tables is just a skill like anything else. It's the same idea as getting better at 1 table, or working out for that matter.
I have just recently started playing 6 tables and a when I started playing around a year ago I couldn't have handled it at all. Someday I plan to be 10+. A big part is just seeing the same situations over and over, but it's not like you go on complete autopilot (if you're playing well). Multitabling is a skill in itself that needs to be improved concomitant with your general improvement in poker. You'll get there, as long as it is a goal of yours. Just add 1 at a time and there is no reason to ever be playing frantically. Do what you are comfortable with and eventually you'll be comfortable with more. |
