cash game acceptable rake
Whats an acceptable rake for a cash game at a place of busniness where a dealer is provided? Its max $100 buyin and blinds are 1 and 2. I had planned to try my first cash game but was shocked when a friend swore their rake was 10% with no ceiling. My friend has got to be mixed up, I can't see this being right but I guess I will find out.

Depends on how captive an audience the place has.... |

I'm assuming by captive, you mean locked up, because you'd have to have no way to escape to play with a horrible rake like that.

Re: cash game acceptable rake
Not a 100% sure about the rake but what would say the card rooms in LA charge or say a casino. I seemed to recall 5% with a cap somewhere

Re: cash game acceptable rake
With 1/2NL, 10% is the norm is AC except it's capped at $4, $1 more if there's a bad beat drop involved.
At 10% you HAVE to cap the rake at some point or there's no point in playing. Some of these out of the way places can charge a little more - it's really whatever the patrons are willing to pay. With a dealer provided and a decent, fair room, 10% with a $3-$5 max rake would be about right, maybe $6 if you're desperate for a place to play (but that's pushing it). Any more than that you might as well not even play, because all of the money is getting sucked off the table too fast to make it worthwhile. If this is a bar or club or something, and your goal is to attract people to the establishment for some other primary purpose, you could cover costs with a 10%/$3 max rake. Or, run x+$10 tourneys. |

I'd say 5% with a $7,50 max or 10% with a $5 max sounds about right.

Re: cash game acceptable rake
I am assuming this is an unlicensed game.
With that in mind, the operator and dealer face the possibility of arrest. The business could be closed (if a bar the bar could lose its liquor license). With that in mind its not really unreasonable for them to rake what would be an unacceptable rake in a licensed game. That being said just because its reasonable for them to charge that much, doesn't mean its reasonable for you to pay it. |

Re: cash game acceptable rake
Yes it is unlicensed. Anyhow, I called the place today and the rake is Max $5. It goes up in steps.
Guess I should of called in the first place. |

10% max 5 is not good, but not unbearable.
