Default Limit Holdem, pocket pairs

hi,

another situation:
-typical 1$/2$ pokerstars full-ring limit texas holdem table.

our hero got a pocket pair in his hands.
now i kinda dislike those things, unless i'm in late
position, i like ALWAYS get raised behind if i limp
in, and then have to call another bet.

so is the correct decision to fold most of these ?
88 MP2 ?
99 MP3 ? fold these ?

any advice on this ?

regards, malicor

If you have 3 other people in the pot, you don't mind calling another bet as you're getting implied odds on a possible set.

If I were opening with either of those hands, I would probably raise. Maybe just call the 88 from MP2. Read SSHE.

First of all. When you limp with a pocket pair and get raised, you are not unhappy, as your implied odds when you hit your set will offset the extra sb *if* you play reasonably well postflop when you miss.

2nd. 99, 88, win often enough unimproved vs a preflop raiser to make calling the raise profitable *if* you read you opponent well.

3rd. 99 and 88 in MP3, even after limpers, should probably be raised most of the time. One or two positions earlier raise/call decision is based on the profile of the players behind you.

In EP, I raise/call with 99 70/30, and with 88, maybe 25/75.

With 22-66, limp in EP unless the table is very aggro, in MP/LP call after limpers or raise/fold 1st in.
