What FT% would Shaq need to be the greatest ever?
Stats.
Assume that Shaq had the exact same career that he actually did, except that he was a better Free Throw shooter. At what point would he be the greatest basketball player of all time? . |

I voted 75%. When he was in shape and in his prime the only way to stop him was to foul him.

I think missing 15 games a year hurts his case more so than his FT%. There were a couple of years where he would've won the MVP, but missed too many games.

i think his ft% was fine, it was his conditioning and fragility that prevented him from being unquestionably the best ever.

LOL @ his FT% was fine. If you are an NBA player, there should be no excuse for shooting the % he does. I do agree that his conditioning and fragility plays a huge role on why he can't be considered the best ever.

There was a guy named Jordan, who could dominate in more ways than in the paint..... also a few others could be put ahead of him.

Re: What FT% would Shaq need to be the greatest ever?
True, Jordan was better, but physically, there was no one who could stop Shaq. If you give the ball to Shaq on every possession and he makes, hypothetically, 90% of his freethrows, then that would be absolutely insane. If he kept up his athleticism in his younger days, combined with an unmatched physical prowess, and in addition to that, a great shooting touch, he might have averaged something like 40 PPG, 14 RPG, 3 BPG.

Re: What FT% would Shaq need to be the greatest ever?
i think shaq could shoot below 50% and be the best ever, if we're selecting players for one game during their prime. i'd have to think about the implications more, but i think he might be the best at 0%.
also, when i said shaq's ft% was fine, i didn't mean it was something he should be proud of or that it didn't prevent him from being even better, just that it was pretty far down the list of things that kept him from being the best ever. |

[/ QUOTE ] Impossible to tell because if he shot better freethrows he prob would have won as may as jordan. He is probably the best center of all time however and 2nd best player of all time after Jordan. |
