Recommend a car stereo
I'd like to get a new car stereo. However, I know nothing about car stereos.
The car I just got already has a real nice set of speakers and a nice equalizer. I just want a new main stereo component, because the current one has a CD jammed in it and it doesn't have an iPod input (and can't have one added). My requirements: It tunes into both FM and AM radio stations (ldo) It must have a CD player. It must have an iPod input. Cheap. Installed by someone other than me. Pioneer from Circuit City Same thing, but cheaper? What say you? |

Re: Recommend a car stereo
Alpine makes the best head units (for the price) in my (limited) experience.
People who install car stereos, will normally back this claim up. |

Re: Recommend a car stereo
JVC has an inexpensive deck w/ HD radio that I picked up.
JVC KD-HDR1 - I paid around $150. Pros: - good sound quality - plays every disc i've thrown at it - HD radio! - next cheapest unit with this costs ~ $700 Cons: - need proprietary cable to auxillary input - no USB/SD slot I'm not normally a huge fan of JVC, but the HD sold me on this radio. Since you need an aux/ipod input, I'd probably just look for whatever is cheapest and meets your needs in either Alpine or Pioneer. I ordered from here after looking around and doing tons of comparison shopping. Fast shipping, cheap prices, and includes an install kit. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/ Obv, if you can't do it yourself though, you may want to buy at a local shop that offers a free installation. Other items you'll need: - wire harness - mounting kit (for most cars) - antenna adapter (for GM cars and some others) |

Re: Recommend a car stereo
Here are a few Crutchfield
I remember my roommate got a pioneer with a plug for an mp3 and mp3 cd capability for less than $150 through Crutchfield, so hopefully I can find it |

Re: Recommend a car stereo
If you want one with an iPod connectivity, get one that allows you to still use the iPod controls while playing it. I have one with the "great" feature of being able to (read: having to) control the iPod using the deck itself - but the controls are basically impossible to use.

Re: Recommend a car stereo
I install for a living and alpine are pretty decent. So long as your spending about $200 for one. Other than that Just don't go cheap. NO DUAL, JENSON, NAMSUNG, or anything else that you never heard of.

Just something that works fine. |
