Can\'t watch TV on my Dell 2001FP Monitor
Okay, so I have a comcast cable box which has a DVI output. I ran a DVI cable from the box to my Dell 2001FP. I can watch TV for about 4 seconds until I lose the picture on my monitor and the screen goes blank.
Does anyone know how to fix this? |

Re: Can\'t watch TV on my Dell 2001FP Monitor
Odd I wouldn't expect to even get 4 seconds out of it...
Only way I know of would be to get a TV Tuner card for your PC and watch through that. |

Re: Can\'t watch TV on my Dell 2001FP Monitor
this sounds like a truly bizarre problem. i have my digital set top box hooked up to a dell 2405 (different model, same concepts though)
1) i assume that your dell 2001fp works fine with other input sources to its dvi plug 2) i assume that your comcast cable box can output dvi to other displays 3) if 1 + 2 is correct, then it is possible that your cable box has some content protection in it. it is difficult to say more without knowing more about your cable box. |

Re: Can\'t watch TV on my Dell 2001FP Monitor
It's a fairly common practice for cable companies to disable most, if not all, of the ports on cable boxes. I don't know why it would work for 4 seconds, though.

Re: Can\'t watch TV on my Dell 2001FP Monitor
i'm just an outsider in this situation (living in Australia, cable tv is not as widespread as in the US) but it seems absurd that companies actively disable sockets on cable boxes.
If assumption #2 in my previous post is wrong, I'd recommend that you be quite assertive and insist on them "fixing" or replacing your box. You have presumably purchased your product on the basis of information provided to you (ie, that it has a DVI/HDMI output). That information is wrong. Therefore, you deserve a refund. Consumer protection laws in all Australian states (and, presumably, the vast majority of other Anglo countries) give consumers this sort of protection as an absolute minimum. |
