Default Omaha 8 in Detroit Area

Does anyone know which of the casinos in Detroit (or Windsor for that matter) spread limit Omaha hi lo? If so, which limits do they spread (I am looking for 5/10 to 20/40 games). Thanks!

I'm In Detroit right now and you will be lucky to find any limit poker going at all. Motorcity casino does have a few limit holdem games going though (nothing real high). The rake and time in this town is so high it's sick. Stay away from poker in detroit 5 dollar rake + 1 for jackpot + 1 tip is sick.

Motor City spreads LO8 on Wednesday's and Saturdays. It's a $5/$10 game with a full Kill. (Kill = when a pot of $80 or more is taken by just one person, the stakes double to $10/$20 for the next hand and the pot winner is automatically in for $10 no matter what.)

It's a good game and I would recommend it to anybody. The first time I played I cashed for +$200 in a 4 hour period.

The 5/10 FK O8 at Motor City is a real juicy game. Couple of things to remember.

Don't get frustrated when you lose to garbage hands. Your nut flush will lose at least once to a garbage straight flush. I gurantee it. Play tight, because those weak players pad a lot of pots for you. Don't let those bad beats get to you.

Pace is pretty slow, and most of the players (Wed. anywys) are retirement age. They're nice people, but it takes em a while to do anything. Do you walk away from a slow ATM? No you wait until it gives you money.

Get there early. These old folks are up and ready by 6am. The Wed. game gets going at 10ish, but no one leaves the table til 3pm so try to get there before the game starts. The list never seems to update. You may end up not playing if you show up too late. Even if you get to play at 3pm, the fishy people are getting ready to leave. The game usually breaks around 5. Even if it's not broken, it's just people waiting for their NL tables so everyoneis coming and going. It's usually 6 handed for the last hour or so.

And Greektown has a 20/40 limit holdem and Omaha High round by round game. I think its sprea every day PLO8 isn't going. The same crowd plays pot limit omaha 8 or better on Tuesday nights I think. Maybe another night of the week, but it always changed. Tues for sure. I've been away from the Detroit scene for a few years, but the PLO8 game is plain WILD. I wouldn't call em good, but they're not bad either. And their pockets are real deep so. Bring at least $1000 if you are playing the PLO8 game. The blinds are 10-20.

Good Luck.

Hey guys, thx for the responses. I haven't played O8 with a kill before. What kind of buy in do you I need (300 enough or would you recommend more?) Also, what kind of bank roll do you guys think one needs to play this game (like 5k?)

Thx,

The first time I went I took $350. I barely dented it. I've never been down more than $100 at that game. Of course this is not to say that you wouldn't need the full $350, but, every other time I went I took $300 and only sat with $200.

The amount you'll need to sit with is going to relate directly to your skill and how aggressive you are.

I find a tight rock style is going to make you the most loot in this game. Of course I've seen guys playing almost every hand and raising preflop about 30% of the time and sure those guys will get chips in the short run, but, I've sat and watched somebody clear $400 in about an hour and dump it all back PLUS their buy-in over the next 3 hours.

So after all this rambling, I'd say bring like $400 with you but only sit with about $200. If you feel you need more, buy more chips.

And as far as bankroll goes, I really don't have any idea. This game is only spread two different days at Motorcity. I think somebody else said GreekTown spreads it a couple of days, but, I can not confirm that as I've never played it there.

Bankroll is directly related to your skill level and your psychological state. I know I know people say "you need _______ much to play in this limit...".

Well, that's probably a great idea, BUT, if you're a consistent winner and are more skilled than the other players in reality all you need as far as bankroll goes is your initial buy-in.

Of course I'm not recommending you do this. Your bankroll should allow you to sit with your buy-in and lose it and not want to kill yourself afterwards. You have to be comfortable losing that amount of money just like you would be comfortable tipping a waitress. If you place an emotional fear on that money, there's a good chance you're not going to play correctly because you're scared to lose.

Look, take $400 if you can easily part w/it. Sit with $200 and see how you do. If you find you lose that buy-in and rebuy another $200 and are still losing you should probably quit for the day and come back again when another $400 isn't a strain on your budget. If you find you're consistently losing over a few sessions then it's probably time to STOP.

Analyze your game and study up some more. Post questions in this forum. You'll get some great advice and you'll be privy to a few different view points. It will do nothing but help you're game. It helped mine and I'm sure a lot of other people will tell you the same thing.

Sorry about the long-winded reply.

I heard the 20-40 game doesn't go at Gtown much anymore. Try calling ahead, I think it runs once a week.

Those lumps were so entrenched in the 1/2 that they wouldn't even start a 5-10 list of interest for me.

Greektown is garbage. Their floor staff is awful, dealers aren't much better, the smoking, the parking situation, the safety of the area, I just try to avoid it whenever there is an alternative(not gambling is not an alternative). I found motor city way more friendly and accomidating. The play level is about the same, though when I was there last greektown only had the 100 max and big NL and MCC only had the 200 max and big NL. I guess both are spreading 500max 200 min now?

I was actually thinking of going to Detroit for some poker. This isn't looking too good. Isn't there another new casino in town with good games? I am typically a 2-5 - 5-5 NL holdem player, but will play 10-20 FL.

Thanks,

Howie

Good site ^.

Do you think you can add clearing rates for any higher levels or even better O8 clearing rates?

Also, Iwantitall... can you please pm me or post here a little more about the 10-20 pl08 game.
