Default Summer Job

Alright here's the situation. I'm home in Wisconsin for the summer, after finishing my first year of college out in California. I should've tried to set-up a summer job over winter break, or earlier this semeseter before school got out, but that never happened.

So I'm stuck looking for a job now, and I'm not having any luck. I've applied to banks, temporary help agencies, retail stores, hotels, etc. and haven't even gotten so much as an interview. It sounds like everyone has filled their summer positions already, and now they're only looking for long-term help. Can I just lie, and say I'm available long-term, and then quit at the end of the summer? Will that even work though, since my resume says I'm currently attending school in California?

I have experience working in fast food and at a car wash, and I wouldn't go back if my life depended on it. But other than that, I'm open to pretty much anything. Preferably not hard manual labor, but I guess if the price is right...

So, any suggestions on where to work slash what to do about the whole long-term vs. summer dilemma? Thanks a lot for any help...

golf course? anything seasonal is probably a better bet to have extra slots for a summer employee than a regular business.

Come back to LA and work as my personal assistant. If you know the USC area that is a plus.

I know umpires can make good money umping summer baseball games (little league and babe ruth) - you have to take a short course to prove you aren't totally retarded of course. My buddy has done this, and its ~$50 per game in Mass.

This has nothing to do with the thread, but I HATED the leagues where the officials got paid. They were definitely worse than the leagues where they were all volunteers. THe paid people were usually just there to collect a pay check; the volunteers actually enjoyed it and strived to do their best.

But I guess there just aren't enough volunteers to fill all the slots...
