Default In the right or wrong? (tl;dr)

A kid I know (Tyler) had his laptop stepped on about 6 months ago by one of his buddies. The force cracked the living [censored] out of the LCD screen. However, it still worked, and broad-casted images and whatnot on to the screen. Just a nuisance because of the leaking liquid crystal, and cracks. It was pretty damaged. Tyler ALWAYS leaves his laptop on the floor in harms way...

Tyler never did anything. He didn't ask for reimbursement, and never got a new laptop out of the deal. I'm speculating that he either was too afraid to ask, or didn't really care because he has a desktop as well, and these were his friends.

Well, about a week ago, as usual, Tyler had left his broken laptop on the floor. My buddy Nick and I were [censored] housed one night and decided to brawl. One thing lead to another, and somehow it got busted up beyond repair. I mean, the screen completely bugged out, and became no longer useable.

I didn't know at the time because of how inebriated we were. I get a call from my buddy Phil (roomates with Tyler, and he told me about the incident. Tyler's pissed, and thinks we should do something about it for him.

I don't really feel bad about it because:
a)it was busted before, and never got replaced
b)it was on the floor, and is always in the way
c)wasn't a big deal when his "buddies" broke it
d)obviously it doesn't have much value to him if he's leaving it in irresponsible places

I don't feel Nick or I owe him anything more than an apology, maybe a case of beer or something. That's it though...

What do you guys/gals think?

The past incident has absolutely no bearing on this one. You broke his laptop, you owe him.

I'm a [censored]? How, the laptop was busted well before we broke it again.

If you consider the fact that he neglects it, and puts it in heavy traffic areas i.e. middle of living room, hallway, path from living room to kitchen, how the [censored] does he expect it not to get stepped on?

What if it were the middle of the night, dark, and I accidentally stepped on it, sober. I'm sure that'd be totally different.

I owe him nothing. He's the moron who left it in a spot where it could get broke. Just like he did initially, when it first happened 6 months ago.

Furthermore, had he set it on the table or something, and we knocked it off, then I'd feel fine about reimbursing him...

It's his [censored], his place. He can leave it wherever the [censored] he wants. You still broke it. The fact that it was already damaged only reduces the amount that you owe him. (like it would have been worse if you broke a brand new laptop)

It can't be any more clear than that.
