Re: B&M Background Music Poll
I like soft music in the background. My personal favorite background music is what is played at TI: 80s/90s alternative, with some oldies thrown in.
Though I do like it at Sahara when they play some classic Easy Listening like Sinatra, Martin, etc, with some House of the Rising Sun in the mix. Nice old Vegas music. |

Re: B&M Background Music Poll
What difference does it make. The only ones not wearing Ipods can't hear it anyway...

Re: B&M Background Music Poll
I remember playing at the MGM a few years back. The bar behind the poker room would play the same Pop-Music blend / mix every half hour throughout the evening as the bartenders would dance on the bar.
It drove me f---king nuts. Ridiculous. I had to leave a +EV game cause the noise was killing me. |

Re: B&M Background Music Poll
I usually rip about 4 hours of music from Entranced.fm and add it to my Ipod.
I honestly CAN NOT stand about any top 40 music played now days. EDIT ...and of course - I gotta listen to JB. P |

kinda ranty reply
The music yes or no, or how loud makes little difference to me. It's what type of music and how much additional background noise is on top of the music that matters.
Every casino will have some background noise, some being much louder than others. One vegas casino has a somewhat domed ceiling which focuses the sound from the entire casino directly onto your friggin' spinal cord. Then they play absolute crapola top fourty thru cheesy speakers at a volume just loud enough to be irritating as hell. And just in case you weren't already feeling suicidal, here's another top fourty hit! The combined effect is a cacophony of echoing noise so irritating it makes thinking nearly impossible, let alone enjoyment. You'd think that an acoustic engineer would be consulted when these places are designed. You thought. That's where you went wrong. Well the moron who skipped the acoustical engineer also does the hiring for the entertaiment director. This friggin' yahoo decides to try and categorically appeal to and please the statistically largest number of people possible no matter what (I call this the lowest common denominator factor, or LCD). So he picks top fourty vomit, churning thru speakers like those you'd find on a bass boat, blasting into a casino with such terrible acoustics your soundman just hung himself. But they don't turn down the band of course. Soon you are ready to drive a flaming schoolbus off a cliff just to get some relief in your friggin' ears. Another thing I'd like to point out: MUSAK was so carefully designed to not offend anyone that absolutely everybody hates it. Top fourty is essentially the same, only crappier. But why show some huevos, take a stand, make a friggin' choice already, when you can go for the LCD effect. Maybe I'm just more sensitive to music than most, but if it's top fourty or country, I'm outta there. Venetian was playing some pretty cool classic rock for a while, then one day they switched to vomitous top fourty dribble. I asked about it and got a bunch of stupid looks, thus I didn't go back for six months. I went in to meet someone one day and they had changed it back, so I will play there again, at least till it changes again. Basically disneyland wasn't designed to be tasteful, it was designed to get your money. Nothing different here in vegas. Kudos to places like the hard rock and boulder station for taking a stand and vetoing the LCD top fourty vomit. Neither casino is short of customers last I checked. |

Re: kinda ranty reply
I said no music, but not because it prevents me from playing. Because it sucks. But that's why I have an iPod.
Just gimme indie rock! It's gotta be! |
