Stars 10NL - flopped middle set BUT facing lots of action
I had just opened this table so no reads whatsoever.
I do think I should have raised more pre-flop,and perhaps more on the flop as well? as played, what would you do? an over-call --> push is kinda scary. Re: Stars 10NL - flopped middle set BUT facing lots of action
First of all, I raise more preflop .40-.45 cents. Second of all, at this level, Im going broke with 2 tens here. Villains can easily have 9-10,j-9,j-10 and make that type of play. At the same time you sorta have to wonder why he smooth called on the flop and reraised. With all the money out there, I think its worth to call him given his possible range and the potodds. You are getting better than 2 to 1 on the call, and you have a chance to boat up if he has q-9 or 78. I think qk is probably unlikely. Pretty clear cut call here.

Re: Stars 10NL - flopped middle set BUT facing lots of action
PF: Raise it to at least $.40 (3xBB +1BB/limper).
Flop: Make it at least $2 or $2.50. As played, I shove over the top to make SB fold. You're getting 2 to 1 and even if he has KQ, you still have 7 outs on the turn and 10 outs on the river. He could easily have KQ, but he could also have 99, AJ, AT, JT, J9, T9 or even more hilarious holdings like AK, AQ or A9. The ONLY hand you don't want to see is JJ. I call. Edit: didn't see dimeetrees post until after I posted mine. I guess we agree! |

Re: Stars 10NL - flopped middle set BUT facing lots of action
thanks guys.
here is the rest of the hand (the pusher indeed had KQo which held up) Hero calls $4.35, SB folds. Turn: ($14.50) 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) River: ($14.50) 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) Final Pot: $14.50 Results in white below: MP1 has Qd Kd (straight, king high). Hero has Td Th (three of a kind, tens). Outcome: MP1 wins $14.50. |

Re: Stars 10NL - flopped middle set BUT facing lots of action
I think I'm raising this to $0.45 pre-flop.
Given the connectedness of the board and the amount of people that saw the flop I think a raise is good, but perhaps $2 would be better. If I was MP1 and I had KQ I'm not sure I'd re-raise you like that on the flop. I think I'd just call your raise and try to get a bit more out of you on the turn and river. I think this player has 2 pair and has put you on a straight draw and is trying to give you bad odds to continue with the hand. I think I'd call/push here. |

Re: Stars 10NL - flopped middle set BUT facing lots of action
I guess you might as well call. I think MP flopped a straight, but possibly he didn't, and you're getting the odds to fill up anyway at this point.
Meanwhile, you don't have to wonder about whether or not to push over the top of MP's push, since MP has SB covered. |

Ahh, I took too long to respond and was completely wrong on my read. I guess that's why I'm still playing micro-stakes.

Re: Stars 10NL - flopped middle set BUT facing lots of action
Don't let the results deter you from making this call in the future.
As you saw, both dimeetrees and I came to the same conclusion before knowing the results - and we both considered the fact that the villian could have KQ - yet, we both agreed that you should call. It was a good call (IMO) and that's what matters - you made the right decision with the information you had available to you at the time. |

FWIW, if MP flipped over his KQ, you should still call.

Re: Stars 10NL - flopped middle set BUT facing lots of action
Raise to .50 preflop, raise more on the flop, as played, call. If he has you beat, you're getting odds to draw out.
