questions about CP with royalities
So we have been playing lots of chinese poker out here and we have run into some conflicting situations with the rules...so im going to ask the questions and give you the answers that I think are right and you guys can either confirm or deny.
1) Player A has a straight flush in the back and player B has quads in the back. Assuming played A loses the front and middle hand, how many points does player A win? I think played A wins 4 points, as you always win at least what the royality is worth. 2) Played A has a straight flush in back and played B has a boat in the middle. Again, played A loses both the front and middle, how much does A win? Ive been told different things here...does played A win 4 points because 4 is what the straight flush is worth or does player A win 3 because it is their 4 bonus points - 1 for player Bs boat, because the royalities arent in the same hand (front middle or back) This question could also apply to any other hand where both players have a royality in a different hand. Im sure there are a few more confusing spots that I cant think of right now because im tired...feel free to post them if you can come up with any. |

Re: questions about CP with royalities
I looked through the rules of various California cardrooms offering CP (available through the division of gaming's web site.) They are not particularly clear on this issue.
Hustler says "since each hand competes separately against every other hand, when a bonus hand beats a bonus hand, the net effect may be that the bonuses cancel each other" which suggests that both players "get" the bonus. Hawaiian Gardens only has bonuses for "automatic win" or "clean sweep" hands. In these situations there is no confusion. Commerce says there may be bonus hands but doesn't describe them. Wikipedia, FWIW, says that in some cases bonuses may only be awarded to a winning hand. I think I saw one casino that had a rule similar to that, but I can't find it now. I think the answer is most likely that there isn't a fixed rule and that the scoring will vary from game to game. (Just like some CP games are 2-4 and some are 1-6.) |

Re: questions about CP with royalities
Thanks for the help...it is just fairly annoying to have to make sure everyone is playing by the same rules, as a dispute is usually over a decent amount of points which means a large amount of dollars. Thanks again.

Re: questions about CP with royalities
FJ,
Basically your question is "when two people have royalties how are the points awarded?" The answer is it depends on location. With my friends and at Commerce at the 13 card poker tables, its 1 chip for majority and 6 chips for scoop, but in the high limit room and in vegas its 2 chips for majority and 4 chips for scoop. In the former to answer your questions both players get their points for their royalties regardless of if they are both in the back or back and middle or whatever, so the point total will be the difference between the normal points awarded and the bonuses for royalties. Basically the answer using this ruleset is both players get credit for their royalties in all cases. In the high limit room and in vegas in your first example the guy with quads gets nothing so player A is rewarded more. In the second example I believe he still gets his royalty points for the middle hand since he won with that hand. The rule there is to get the bonus points you have to win that hand. -DeathDonkey |

Answer A wins 4. SF is 4, 6 0r 8 2) Played A has a straight flush in back and played B has a boat in the middle. Again, played A loses both the front and middle, how much does A win? A wins 3. 4 less 1 for the Full House. This is in Las Vegas and Commerce. |
