Default Most Important World Figures 1900-2000

This is from a discussion that didn't really get anywhere conclusive. So, I am polling the genius of the politics forum: who do you think are the top 10?

Drop Truman and Ben-Gurion, add Churchill. Drop MLK, Wilson, and Castro.

Not sure what a World "Figure" is, but you may want to include someone like Bill Gates.

Truman ordered the only atomic bomb(s) ever to be used in warfare as well as initiate the containment poilicy which shaped the future of the US for the following 50yrs

Ben-Gurion isthe personification of Israel and thus marks the begining of an on goingconflict in the middle east.

Wilson pioneered the early UN (League of Nations) and was a damn good president IMO (not that the last part counts for anything)

Churchill is a bitch, the only reason he is even worth mentioning is because his country happened to be the last one in western Europe that the nazis went for. He was nothign special and the UK only lasted because of US aid and intervention.

Castro, fine, he is not that important

MLK jr is much more worthy than Castro but his effect is really limited only to the US so I guess thelack of global impact makes him not so good for the list.

Well, since I'm polling here it's obviously going to be mostly politicians, political leaders, etc., but it includes pretty much everyone - Bill Gates, the Wright Brothers, whomever.

This is tough and arbitrary, but in no order:

Hitler
Einstein
Lenin
Stalin
Frankin Roosevelt
Bill Gates
Henry Ford
Wright Brothers
Ronald Reagan
Gandhi

There's at least 20 more I think could go on here as equally important. Top 10 is really too restrictive.

Godel
Einstein
Planck
Picasso
Sarte
John Paul II
Hitler
Lenin
Ford
Ben-Gurion

In no particular order

1. FDR
2. Lenin
3. Hitler
4. Ghandi
5. Mao
6. Einstein
7. Alexander Fleming (Penicillin)
8. Nicolai Tesla
9. Stalin
10. Oppenheimer

Oppenheimer is the only one I'm not really sure of, and I'm not positive that he and Einstein merit two places on the list.

I also considered Reagan, Yeltsin, Gorbachov, Edison (but chose Tesla instead), Ford, Watson (of IBM) Wilson (wither Woodrow or Edith, depending on who you think was running things), Teddy Roosevelt -- though he really straddled the 19th and 20th centuries), Bismark, etc., Pope John XXIII, Pope John Paul II and a bunch of others.
