stud hi - split 9A9, early position vs calling station, unknown
Seat 6 in this hand is a calling station/weak passive player who habitually chases basically anything.
Seat 1 is an unknown. I've been playing tight/aggressive at this table and have made two really strong hands and gotten paid off. One of the strong hands was a semibluff (A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img])(2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img])2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] hand in a multiway pot where I completed on 3rd street against a couple of broadway door cards, bet 4th street and then caught a deuce on 5th street to crack a couple of big pairs, boated up on the river and got paid off. Several of the players called me an overaggressive idiot, donkey, etc for betting split 22 into bigger door cards. Eh, whatever. For the most part, I've run over the fairly passive players and value bet Seat 6 into an oblivion. My table image should be pretty good, save the "lucky idiot" comments that followed the 222 hand. 7 Card Stud High ($5/$10), Ante $1, Bring-In $1.50 (converter) 3rd Street - (1.40 SB) Seat 1: xx xx A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]___calls Seat 2: xx xx J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]___folds Seat 3: xx xx J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]___folds Seat 4: xx xx 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]___brings-in___folds Hero: 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]___completes Seat 6: xx xx 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]___calls Seat 8: xx xx 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]___folds 4th Street - (4.70 SB) Seat 1: xx xx A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]___checks___calls Hero: 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]___bets Seat 6: xx xx 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]___calls 5th Street - (3.85 BB) Seat 1: xx xx A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]___checks Hero: 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]___checks Seat 6: xx xx 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]___checks 6th Street - (3.85 BB) Seat 1: xx xx A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]___bets Hero: 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]___calls Seat 6: xx xx 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]___calls River - (6.85 BB) Seat 1: xx xx A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] xx___bets Hero: 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]___folds Seat 6: xx xx 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] xx___calls Total pot: (8.85 BB - $88.50) |

I think 3rd and 4th are ok. I would probably pull the trigger once more on 5th because that is the street where you are going to get folders. Given the facts that you kept the pot small on 5th, a 9 fell, there are only 2 aces out there and no other good draw, and the Ad called your complete with live diamonds, I would probably just let it go on 6th.

Mandatory bet on Five. It's the first opportunity to face someone with a big bet, seat One has bricked (you want him to fold if he will), and you are probably ahead of seat Six.

Is folding 3rd out of the question?

Well, it wouldn't occur to me.

Have people been commenting on your solid play? I'm guessing no. Your "lucky idiot" image is going to trump whatever tight/aggressive/solid image you think you have going for you.
Third's fine. I'd probably limp myself. On fourth, one of you Nines just died and AJs00ted is a little scary. I might just check along. Having bet, I think you should bet fifth and give them a chance to fold. Third street is the most opportune time to get people to fold, but fifth street is the next most opportune time. I won't say that you shouldn't call sixth, and I won't say that you shouldn't fold on the river, but it does seem to be a losing combination. Did you call sixth hoping to make two scraggly pair against two players, one of whom is showing three diamonds? If you're calling hoping to make Aces-up or better, that's a three-out draw. Folding sixth can't be far wrong. |

Oh I misread the post entirely. When it said "split" in the title I thought that meant it was hi-low split, but now I see it just means it was a split pair. That's why I thought a fold was in order.

I don't like the 4th street bet or the 6th street call - that's where I dump it.
Hint: look at the dead cards on board on 4th and run an equity sim against seat 1's possible range of hands, then factor in the fact that you have two opponents. |

Fold 6th. Seat 1 has been pretty passive & now on 6th catches the third diamond & bets into you...I'd give him credit for the flush or pocket 8's for trips.

Re: stud hi - split 9A9, early position vs calling station, unknown
4th street bet is bad when the ace catches suited paint. You are likely behind (either vs a 4-flush or bigger pair) and are not a huge favorite over a bunch of overs either. Best to keep pot small and give a potential 5th street bet more weight.
