Pooh-Bah Post: Getting the most out of 2+2
Believe it or not, everything you need to become a winning SSNL or MSNL player is in 2+2. Hell, I think that all you need to become a winning player in MSNL is in SSNL. The problem is that the information is not in the format that most posters expect it. There is no magic formula to play, although the sticky comes real close, and you can’t possibly expect to build some sort of decision tree to follow in different situations. So how can you take myriad of posts about random hands and turn into cold hard cash? The key is to not learn what to do in specific situations, but to learn a thought process that maximizes profit hand to hand, not in a situation.
The question obviously becomes, “How do I learn this thought process?” I believe the answer lies in the forums, but it’s not going to come from the forums directly, it is going to come from the thinking you have to do to debate a hand. Obviously, your specific line of thinking is going to change from post to post, but I’m going to give some assumptions to make before you post that should help you develop a winning thought process when playing poker. The poster above you is incorrect until proven otherwise Every poster here, whether it is me, Orange, aislephive or some complete newb is going to make mistakes and offer poor advice or reasoning. If I make a post and you disagree with me, challenge me! I really won’t be offended, I may rip your next post into shreds or I may agree with you, but either way, we both gain experience and a better understanding of poker. Don’t be afraid to be wrong! I used to challenge posters who were much better than me all the time. I attribute a lot of my success to this. My response to the post above me will require more than 5 words Everyone is guilty of this, especially the regulars (that includes me). We’ve gone over some questions so many times that our answer is almost a reflex. We don’t mean it as an insult, so please don’t take it as one. For our part, the short posts should be cut down. If someone does put up a short post in response to something you post, first think about what the short post implies. If you still don’t get it, reply quoting the short post and ask why? The poster above you is a good guy/girl/thing Respect generates trust, trust allows for better discussion. Better discussion helps us all make more money. If someone disagrees with you and destroys your argument, don’t furiously defend it to the bitter end using personal invective. Making a poster uncomfortable to the point where he doesn't want to post anymore is not good for the community. Even if someone who is always wrong leaves we still lose an example of what not to do. I really believe that all you need to learn to become a winning player is in SSNL because it is basically the only resource I used. Even though that may be results orientated thinking , I do believe it. |

IMO I think the most important thing when posting/discussing hands, is that you can't get offended. You have to leave your ego at the metaphorical door.
Good post ike <3 |

Re: Pooh-Bah Post: Getting the most out of 2+2
The whole "respect" thing and arrogance in 2p2 really does ruin the board.
If everyone dropped their ego's this forum would generate alot more discussion and less arguements. Comments such as "This is why you'll always suck" are so worthless. If they're wrong, explain why. If they then bring up a valid point, acknowledge it - Dont confuse the new guy by saying "ok whatever" simply because your ego won't allow you to accept you were wrong. Having no EGO in poker is massive EV at the poker table too. Berating fish, tilting due to bad beats or being out played - Foolish. |
