Table Games to Pennsylvania Soon?

I read an article today that the slots parlor in Philly is going around the law against live table games with an electronic blackjack game manufactured by Shuffle Master.

I'm wondering if the next step will be the new Pokertek poker that got some pub a few months ago.

I'm daring to dream, as I'm close to a future racino.

well, I'm not up to date on any of the info to have an opinion other than to say...as West Virginia moves closer to table games, so will Pa. Pennsyvania lost revenue to those other states that allowed slots, so they then changed their tune. West Va. saw that (pa. adding slots) and to trump Pa. they then are moving to the table games.

So I think eventually it'll happen...or at least I have my fingers crossed.

As I have said in previous threads. Louis DeNaples now owns the old Star resort Mt. Airy Lodge. Mr. DeNaples is a controvisial figure in Pa and is said to have many shady dealings and has accumulated much power.

It's safe to say that if he want's table games he WILL get table games.

These games are basically just slot machines. For example, the eBlackJack game in the article is really 5 separate games, i.e. each hand comes from a different virtual "deck" and every player is playing against a diffent set of dealer hole cards.

The current law in Pennsylvania does not allow games where one player's actions affect the odds for another player, which kills any real poker games.

I am not positive, but I remember reading something about Gov. Eddie Rendell being in favor of table games in PA, but is just waiting for the idea to heat up. They just approved the slot bill, so it will take some time to get table games. The increased pressure from WV, and obviously NJ, should help the cause in PA.

Someone I know who is, um, familiar with PA state gaming law is certain that tables games will be specifically legalized in the near future. Who knows, though.

Rendell stated that he is against the idea of table games in the near future (at least for the next several years), because determining the next appropriate steps would likely require some experience with how slot machines work out.

But things can always change, of course. From what I can tell, WV is going to have table games before all the licensed slots sites in PA are up and running! I think the chances for operational poker and table games in the western panhandle of WV by midsummer look very good.

I wouldn't expect table games to come to PA for at least several years after WV deploys them successfully. This is one slow-moving state. We're already more than a year behind schedule in our implementation of the slots.

The city of Pittsburgh is crying that their budget is out of balance because last year's promised revenues from slots didn't come in! Oh no, nation-leading property tax rates and nation-leading population loss couldn't have anything to do with it .... Oh wait, I take it back; New Orleans (after Katrina) did nose out metropolitan Pittsburgh in the population loss category.
