Unusual 60-120 Hand
I witnessed this in the Commerce 60-120 game. Tightish player limps UTG. There are 3 more limpers and both blinds call.
Flop comes J-9-8 rainbow. Small blind bets. He is pretty tight, he'd be unlikely to bet a weak, lone jack or a draw into the field here. He might have Q-J or J-T, but he'd be more likely to try a check-raise with K-J or A-J. Two pair (or better) is a distinct possibility. Big blind calls. He's pretty aggressive and loose sometimes a little reckless, but not clueless. His hand is unlikely, though, to include a T as he would very often raise with it. UTG calls. All the other limpers fold. Turn is an offsuit 6. Small blind scans the board and bets slowly and deliberately. Big blind thinks and calls. UTG calls. River is 7, making board J-9-8-6-7, no flush possible. Small blind checks, big blind bets very quickly. UTG take enough chips in his hand to raise, but before he can complete his action, small blind folds J-9 face up. UTG now just calls. BB shows J-3, UTG shows A-A and takes down the pot. So UTG had A-A, never got in a raise, had the second best hand when bet into on the river, and won the pot. Seemed like an unusual combination of circumstances to me. Thoughts? |

Re: Unusual 60-120 Hand
AA didnt want to raise but faked the raise to get the best hand to fold. that is a play that people underestimate.

Re: Unusual 60-120 Hand
When I read
[ QUOTE ] Tightish player limps UTG [/ QUOTE ] I immediately thought AA. ummmm sb should learn to not open-fold out of turn. UTG played perfectly in hindsight (oooh, results-oriented). But honestly- taking it street-by-street, it all looks very reasonable when playing versus a tight bettor and loose caller. nh UTG. |

[/ QUOTE ] He's showing the table how smart he is by folding his "obviously" beaten two-pair before the raise can even be made. edit: It's also possible he thought UTG was just going to call and wanted to show the table how smart he is by folding his "obviously" beaten two-pair rather than over-calling. Either way he probably wishes he'd just folded quietly as etiquette dictates. |

Re: Unusual 60-120 Hand
After failing to get in a limp reraise UTG gets married to what should be his nearly dead aces in a smallish pot and luckboxes his way into the pot. BB was completely clueless calling flop with top pair no kicker on a coordinated board with four potential opponents yet to act.
Players acting out of turn (or giving away there intentions with hand motion) probably accounts for 40% of my edge in a live game. ~ Rick |
