Default Gambling at a Bachelor Party...

before i even get into it, we're going to the strip club the night before...

anyway, i'm throwing my brother's bachelor party on the 28th, and he just wanted lots of liquor and gambling (and strippers, but we solved that!)..

we figure on sng's, cash games, blackjack and dice.

i'm going to have to put the majority of the bankroll as the bank (due to the 3 other groomsmen being broke as [censored]), and definitely would like to have a profit at the end of the night to hand over to my brother...i'm not looking to kill people, but we're charging $5 at the door, and having a 50/50 or whatever...even a small profit at the end of the night after the cost of renting the place, 3-4 kegs, liquor, food, etc. is taken out is fine by me, i'm giving it to my brother anyway..

we're figuring 50-60 people or so.

so then, i have a few questions for you, the Home Poker forum...

--what should the rake be, if any, on the cash games?

--should we be charging a fee for sng's, such as $20+5?

--i'm assuming house takes 10% of all rolls in craps (that's been standard to other parties i've went to)?

--what other games could/should we have?

my main question is for blackjack...i can picture 2 full tables going the entire night. i'd like to have the limit per hand be $5...how much of a bankroll is going to be needed to cover that? at least $1,000, i'm assuming, probably more. you just don't want a bad 5 or 6 hands of the dealer busting to kill you...

anything else i should think about? i'll be putting up what amounts to about double my current gambling bankroll for the night, so i'll be keeping an eye on everything..i have my dad and 2 of his (older) friends to deal whatever they're asked to deal, so no worries there.

my buddy is a cop in the city, so he's security for the night($20/hr), no worries of getting busted for gambling, plus, he'll be keeping an eye on the tables.

my worry is that i'll become consumed with all the gambling going on (with my money!), and i won't be able to have a good time...however, if that's the way it has to be for everything to run smooth, so be it, i'll bite the bullet for my brother so he doesn't have to worry about anything..

i'm sure i'll be back with more questions as they come up over the next 2 weeks...

Make the rules horrible for the player. Nobody will notice (probably) and all the profits are going to the groom anyway.

My local firehouse runs a Vegas night from time to time. They spread 4 (or 6?) deck BJ games, 1 to 5 buck bet. Their rule change is double down only on 10 and 11. Kicks a few more points their way.

I don't mind the vig cause it's a good cause, neither should your guests.

I've personally organized two bachelor parties and been involved in organizing about 6 others all of them with what you have described above, so just some advice and words of wisdom,

First off when everyone is there and before the gambling really gets started make an announcement as to why everyone is there, let them know you are raising money for the bachelor anyone that doesn't understand that shouldn't be there.

Second, if you set up a tournament announce it collect the money and decide how much you want to hold out for your bro and then announce the payouts, you don't have to announce how much you are holding out and if anyone questions it tell them it's like you said in the beginning your raising money for the bachelor. I've never ever had anyone question this.

The $5 cover is really really cheap, I have NEVER been to a bachelor party at a hall w/food, beer, girls etc that has been under a $20 cover at the door.

For blackjack use charity rules not casino rules, again you are there to make your brother money. my cousin ran a fundraiser tourney for a softball team and made about $800 on a large holdem rebuy tourney but lost it all dealing blackjack at two tables because he used casino rules.

Dice - not a bad idea holding out 10% but its too hard if you just shoot like we do with the pass/don't pass lines, if you shoot like that just have any snakeeyes, three's, or boxcars on the comeout roll ALL goto the bachelor.

Cash games - I'd just make a personal visit to each table and let everyone know to put money in the jar (we use coffey cans) after each pot is won.

All in all you won't have much time to gamble if you are looking out for your brothers interests, there is just too much other stuff going on.

Good luck,

30

thanks so far...

i left out some of the stuff we'd already discussed for blackjack...ties go to the house was the main one we came up with, along with blackjack paying 1:1. and the only reason the $5 max bet worries me, is because we'll undoubtably have some degen's there who will split every pair, and double down on anything if the dealer is showing 2-5.

i've seen $5 max bets turn into $15 or $20 EVERY HAND when certain people are playing.

as for the door charge, i actually was leaning towards $10, but didn't want to seem like a dick. i've been to places that charged $10 for a bachelor party, however they usually included strippers.

lamboruns...good point. the vast, vast majority of people that will be there will be too drunk to be doing all that. i'm even planning on BJ being the big money-maker, because i've seen my friends play blackjack, and it isn't NEAR optimal strategy...then again, 1 or 2 people watching the deck good easily take down profits a pretty good percentage...

also, thanks to club30 and his 1st post! i'm currently torn between straight-up announcing that we're here to take your money and give it to my brother, and trying to run 'fair' games so people don't get upset.

i'm, of course, leaning towards emptying people's pockets as they empty my beer and vodka, but like i said, i want everyone to have a good time.

also, i'm fully aware that i'll be busy most of the night. being the host kinda requires that. there'll be plenty of time to get retarded after we close 'er down at midnight...
