Building links with articles?

I asked a similar question earlier in the week but I can't find the thread anymore. Sorry if you've already answered it.

Anyhow Ive started writing articles to submit to article directories for my site. What I wanted to know is whether I can submit the same article to many different directories or do I have to rewrite each article for each directory. Thx

If I'm just looking for backlinks I'll submit to as many directories(except ezine) as I can handle with one article.

I generally use unique articles for ezine because they actually give you traffic and often will get put on other sites. Also keeping an ezine account in good standing is important.

PS: If you check the digitalpoint forums you can generally get somebody to submit your article for you to a few hundred directories for like 5$ an article.
