1-2 NL deepstacked. . . tough river decision w/ mid set
This is a live 1-2 NL game with a 300 capped buyin.
The villain is new to the table but is from a broken game, so his stack is roughly 500, and I cover. Villain 2 is a serious calling station, who will put his chips in with almost any piece. Villain 1 raises to 12 in EP, I call in MP with 88, Villain 2 calls, 1 or 2 other callers. Flop: Jx 10x 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Villain 1 bets out 20, I raise to 60, Villain 2 calls (and now has roughly 70 left) and Villain 1 calls. Turn: 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Villain 1 checks, I bet out 75 dollars, villain 2 folds, villain 1 calls. River: 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Villain 1 goes all-in for just over 300 dollars. Hero?!?! |

Re: 1-2 NL deepstacked. . . tough river decision w/ mid set
As played I would puke, and probably fold the river. But in real life I would never have made a $75 bet into a ~$200 pot on a super drawy board. I would have made it $175, and then called a push if he were to push the turn.

Make it $100 on the flop then at least 3/4 pot on turn.

Bet the turn much harder, and possibly the flop too. As played you can easily fold the river, your opponent has a made hand, most likely KcJc etc.

Re: 1-2 NL deepstacked. . . tough river decision w/ mid set
The turn bet was where I made a serious mistake; I agree that a bet of 150-200 would have been the right more there.
I think that my reasoning during the hand was that I wanted Villain 2 to commit the rest of his chips to the pot, and I had not seen Villain 1 make any huge move up to this point, and would not expect a normal 1-2 NL player to fire a 300 dollar all-in bet on the river. It had felt like I was in total control of the hand, where I'd have been able to bet 75 on the turn, get called in 2 spots, then value-bet the river. Well, I screwed up in both regards- V1 folded, then V2 called and made a huge play on the river. I still contemplated the river decision and was probably 50-50 against calling or folding, but the runner-runner clubs probably gave him too many hands that would have beat me. He flipped over A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], I steamed for a few but ended up making a bit of that back; he turned out to be much too LAG for the 1-2 game we were in. How many of you make that call on the river given the way the hand was played? |
