Preflop: Hero is BB with 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. 2 folds, MP1 raises, 3 folds, Button calls, 1 fold, Hero calls. Flop: (6.40 SB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players) Hero checks, MP1 bets, Button calls, Hero... I was pretty sure i was ahead of mp1. I was going to check raise him, but button came a long. Not sure how my hand would do on later streets 3 way. Suggestions ? |

Re: 44
for me its an auto raise.
calling in the hopes that button calls is not good as he surely has overcards to the flop |

Re: 44
I would encourage you to look up Entity's old post entitled "No Set, No Bet?" which I linked to in my 6 Max baby steps post, which is in the FAQ. If you're going to justify playing this hand past the flop, you're going to need to post some real reads.

Re: 44
This is a pretty bad board for your weak pp. If it was rainbow I could see trying to get fancy, but without reads I see no point in calling this flop. In fact on my tighter days I'm not calling one with it pre-flop and only two people in.

Re: 44
Vs. unknowns I think this is a very easy fold. Even if you have the best hand here your equity isn't great.

Re: 44
Grunch. YOU MUST FOLD. While you're probably ahead of atleast one of your two opponents, there's a real chance you're behind. Even if you're ahead at this point, most turn and river cards will scare you (even if their not high cards-any card that completes flush or straight draw). So if you dont fold here, you're gonna have to fold on later streets. You could play against MP1, but the button really forces you to fold.

Re: 44
Is folding weak? Because I think folding in this pot would be best. Since the button came along, I think we're in a tough spot, but I liked your plan, but since you couldn't get it HU, you're kind of sunk at this point.

Re: 44
I would call and see what the turn brings. I'm not afraid to call again on the turn, or even check-raise the turn, depending on what happened.
You can play this hand for set value only. The number that used to get tossed around is that you want to get about 10:1 (pot size when you winreflop investment) with pocket pairs. This means you want 5 SB = 2.5 BB postflop, which is very easy to do. Why 10:1? You're about 8:1 to flop a set, but you sometimes hit a set and lose, so you need to make up for it by winning more when you win. I've never looked carefully at the numbers to see how accurate it is. |

Re: 44
We have no reads, which agrees with your point. On the other hand, assigning top 20% and top 25% to the respective villains, poker stove gives us 38% equity here. If we think those villains are playing about that many hands don't we have to raise this? But if we think villains are a lot looser and might be more apt to be holding a 7 or a 6 then do we fold?
