Default Federal judge tells Marines to dismiss conscientious objector

Link

[ QUOTE ]
Robert Zabala, 23, must be released from the Marines Corps Reserves by mid-April, U.S. District Judge James Ware said in a 21-page ruling Thursday. Zabala, a UC Santa Cruz student, began boot camp in June 2003. During a three-month period that summer, one of Zabala's superiors repeatedly gave speeches about "blowing s -- up" or "kicking some f- a-," which caused him to wonder "how someone could be so motivated to kill," he wrote in his court petition in April 2006.

[ QUOTE ]
When an instructor showed recruits a "motivational clip" showing Iraqi corpses, explosions, gun fights and rockets set to the song, "Bodies," by the heavy metal band Drowning Pool. The lyrics included "Let the bodies hit the floor," and Zabala said he cried -- his only time while in boot camp -- while other recruits nodded their heads in time with the beat and smiled.

Shouldn't he have thought about some of this before he signed up for the Marines?

Are these videos "normal" training materials?

Do we need this type of training for soldiers to do their jobs well?

Maybe he though that Marines are there to help the Iraqi people.

no clue

I guess that depends on what you think the objectives of our military are.

you kidding jaytee? what do you think the purpose of military training is, being taught to help people?

the objective of any military is to be a source of force for accomplishing goals.

And too, i really doubt this video is how it sounds. Videos of stuff getting blown up are cool, corpses are the only part which a normal person wouldn't think was cool, and even then I have to imagine it was purposefully included to desensetize. Its not like there's a low chance a marine might see a corpse in iraq.

This is stupid. When I was signing paperwork there was a question that simply asked "are you a conscientious objector?"

Yes he should have thought of this. The Marine Corps is a FIGHTING FORCE FIRST. Christ, what do you people expect. Here i'll give you an example. During training they showed us this exact video. Explosions and so forth, but nothing like showing live executions. We're fighting, and people are dying, so why sugarcoat it with [censored]? These people know what they signed up for.

As far as needing this training to do their job well... well if any of these recruits end up fighting in a war zone, then it would certainly help if that wasn't the very first exposure to that kind of violence now would it? I see nothing wrong with his superiors talking about blowing [censored] up or kicking F'n a$$...he needs to quit being a pussy, cause that's the wrong place to be a pussy.

btw-the song in the video is Korn-Dead Bodies Everywhere... ZOMG!!!!!11!! The video is awesome though
