Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
Wow. I just picked this up this morning, and I love it. Spitting Venom is pretty much the greatest song I've ever heard. Oh, and I've only heard that once.
The album is a little edgier than GNFPWLBN, maybe a bit more like Doin' the Cockroach. Johnny Marr on guitar is also quite noticeable, and something I very much appreciate. Anyone else heard this yet? |

Re: Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
i have only listened to 'dashboard' and 'fire it up' so far, but liked both of them a good bit and they have been playing on my ipod consistently for weeks.
weird you just started this thread because i JUST now finished procuring the entire album and am about to give it a first listen through. in the meantime, here is a youtube of the video for 'dashboard' which i think is pretty quality. i like it. modest mouse - dashboard. also, american idol made a wince-inducing cover of 'float on' along with equally awful video that was on the other night. |

Dashboard is a [censored] awesome song. I've been eagerly awaiting this album and plan on picking it up at my first opportunity when it's released proper on Tuesday.

There are two types of Modest Mouse fans.
It seems the first three posts in this thread are "those" types of fans. "Dashboard" is an absolutely embarassing song. And "Doin' the Cockroach" was a song, not an album. /snobbery |

I haven't listened to the album, the only two songs I've heard are the same ones chuddo has. I just don't have high expectations based on those two songs + GNFPWLBN.

0evg0,
Think you will be pleasantly surprised by new album. It's not old school, not even old new school modest mouse, but it really has some solid moments. These guys deserve to make money and lets face it if they continued down the road of making songs like Cowboy Dan and Exit does not Exist, they would have such a small fanbase that they would probably end up breaking up. I'll take 4 more mediocre modest mouse albums over no albums. -IMS |

There are two types of Modest Mouse fans. [/ QUOTE ] Eh, three. 1) Selfish snobs who refuse to accept that bands need to change to stay fresh, and more importantly, find success. 2) Noobs who discover the band after commercial success, and don't really get the older material that paved that road. 3) Those who just like good music and have no problems adapting with their favorite bands and the times. This album is great. |

Re: Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
I've been listening to MM since right before Everywhere and His Nasty Parlour Tricks came out, and I still love them. Haven't heard anything off this new album but I'll pick it up in a few hours when the stores open; I'm sure it won't disappoint.
The only thing I didn't like about Good News is the new keyboard sound they added, it's in too many songs but it's not a big deal. |
