Default The most electrifying 3 rounds of boxing ever?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYHSHd1xfpY

"Marvelous" Marvin Hagler vs. Tommy "The Hitman" Hearns.

Attended the "live" simulcast in the old Boston Garden (It was sold out).

Was hoarse for 2 days after this fight.

Enjoy.......

After you watch the fight. Watch this one. It is part 1 of 4, but the others are easily found on YouTube.

Thanks for pointing that out: I watched them but neglected to say the same.

FWIW, I followed Hagler from his very early days, as he's from my neck of the woods.

I saw him fight live a couple of times, and had the opportunity to spend a little time with him.

One day we were talking, and he knew that I had done some amateur boxing. He asked me whether I was left handed or right handed. I told him left handed, and he responded..."but you box right handed, don't you?". I was shocked because that was true! I asked him..."How the hell did you know that?". He just chuckled and said...."I can tell by the way you stand when we're talking".

The video does not do that fight true justice.

What makes it so special was that virtually every punch that either of them threw was with what is called "Evil Intent".

Normally in a boxing match, most of the time that does not happen, as you will quickly wear yourself down.

If you watch the replays closely, pay attention to the body shots that Marvin hit Hearns with. Most of them are absolutely devastating, and the fact that Hearns was standing after taking some of them is a testament to his courage. You simply can't imagine what a shot like that feels like unless you've been on the receiving end of one of them!

Watch closely in round 3, right before Marvin hits him with the overhand right that put Hearns on queer street; he hit Hearns with 2 body shots and you can virtually see most of the life go out of Tommy after that point.

Going into the fight, I was quite concerned for Marvin. Hearns was a freak of nature (incredible height & reach for a middleweight with devastating punching power), and IMO had more weapons as a middleweight than anyone I had ever seen.

I do not say that lightly, as I had watched the greatest one of all time (Sugar Ray Robinson) fight many times.

This fight was simply a contest of wills; whoever wanted it more than the other guy was going to win. They both put everything they had on the line, threw caution to the wind, and let it all hang out.

That is why most boxing afficionado's consider it the best three rounds of boxing ever in a championship fight.

This is one reason I prefer the middlewieghts, give or take a class or 2, over the heavyweight huggers.

A lower weight fight that was great was Carbajal v Gonzales. I think that one got fight of the year when that happened.

This fight reminded me of Gomi/Diaz from Pride 33 in February.

This one of my favorites, the clip is just round 9 but the whole fight is definitely worth watching.

Ward vs Gatti 1 (Rocky style)
