My boss\'s smacking is out of control
This is a follow up to my original thread.
Again, he's the best boss I've had. Easy going, understanding, good teacher... I sit like 4 feet away from him and he smacks constantly. For those who don't know what smacking is, it's the annoying sound people make when they chew loudly and with their mouth open. He does it for no reason. It's TERRIBLE after he eats something because he does it like 4-5 times a minute. I listen to my iPod as much as possible to avoid it, but I've concluded today that this cannot continue. How do you approach someone (a superior) with something like this? I've tried ignoring it, I've tried getting over it... but I simply can't. |

Doh... meant to post this in BBV4Lyfe.
Keep in mind, I like the guy. I'm not trying to ruin his career by any stretch, I just want him to stop smacking. If it was a peer, this would be pretty easy, but it's not. |

Re: My boss\'s smacking is out of control
I've got a roommate that does this. It's a huge pet peeve of mine. I've politely commented on it, told him to quiet down and told him it's bothers me, and could be a real problem for him if others find it as annoying as I do, and he agreed it's something he should work on. He still does it, however, and it drives me nuts.
I often leave the room when he's eating and never invite him to lunch for this reason. It feels awkward whenever I bring it up. |

[/ QUOTE ] That's a big part of the problem. I'm not convinced that even if I talk to him about it, he could stop it. Then every time he does it, it will be an even bigger distraction. I've always been very sensitive to noises. My brother used to do something similar, he could not take a bite of food on a fork without the fork hitting his teeth (and very very loudly). It was easy to stop him from doing that though... I just punched him in the eye. |
