Default The Official Workout Accessories Thread

Didn't see this, thought it might be a useful place for people to find out good new products or things out there.

Camelbak 1L Water Bottle
Amazon Listing: $13

This is a great water bottle for a couple of reasons. The best thing about it though, is that it has a built in straw so you don't need to tilt it. I find this helpful when running on treadmill or doing hiking type stuff because you don't need to lean your head back. The spout is really cool because it is a rubberized tip that you need to kind of bite down on with your teeth to open up and allow flow. Some might complain its tough to get a lot out at once, but you don't need to be chugging water while working out IMO. Also has a real handy finger loop and is overall constructed very well.

Yoga Strap
Amazon Listing: $4

Yes, its just a strap of sturdy fabric that is six feet long. For someone that isn't very flexible that wants to work on it, this is a very useful tool. There are some stretches where a yoga strap really helps you get at the muscles you are trying to hit, without compromising form or comfort.

This simple hamstring stretch is made much more efficient and productive with this little strap. As posted elsewhere, I hurt my back and my PT showed me a bunch of stretches and trying to duplicate them at home without the strap was just not up to snuff. Highly recommended for a $4 investment.

Notebook/Workout Log

Not exactly earth shattering, but for those that don't keep track when lifting, it really helps you progress. If you see that you've been doing the same number of reps at same weight for too long, it pushes you to do more. Also, makes you accountable for not skipping out when you're too lazy, because there will be a glaring empty spot in the book.

So, what type of things do you use when working out? Anyone use the Nike+ system? Throw some suggestions out there.

Great post. I use:

Cheapo Shaker Bottle - $1.95 (free with order from Bodybuilding.com

Good for mixing L-Glutamine, Cellmass, or other workout-related mixes, or just filling up with ice water for those long runs or high-intensity workouts. Not terribly suited for portable use like the Camelbak or Nalgene bottles, but hey, it's free.

SPRI Resistance Bands - $5-15 each

I have a full set of these with varying degrees of resistance to help flexibility, rotator cuff strength/endurance, and to help switch up my workouts. These are great for changing up the type of load on your arms, shoulder, or other joints by combining routines with these and your cable cross machine at the gym.

Yoga/Swiss Ball - $10-20

They come in size-specific shapes for varying degrees of height/weight, so getting the right one (or two) is fairly important. Great for oblique workouts, core workouts, and for sitting on while watching TV.

Noah,

I've been using a dogleash to do stretches. I will get this now.

Kyle,

Can you expand anymore on appropriate sized weight for the swiss ball. I generally just grab a random one at the gym.
