I'm gonna ask this question in the STT forum because it is mostly a SNG even though the tourney started w/ 2 short tables.
We're down to the final table with 7 players left. I'm 2nd or 3rd in chips holding ~19.5k with short-stacks in the CO, SB and BB. The blinds are 250/500 w/ 50 ante. The CO is a deceptively smart player who finished 3rd last week. He is pretty straight forward and will make tough calls. The SB is a donkey calling station and the BB is the best player at the table. I've been playing very tight and have won every hand that I have shown down. UTG folds Hero raises to 1500 w/ Ah-10d MP1 folds CO reraises AI for 3500 more Button folds SB calls AI for 700 on top of my 1500 (and gives a small speech about pot odds and now is as good a time as any) BB folds It's 3500 to me to call in a pot of 9,550. What's my play? Should I have raised in this spot w/ A-10o? |

First of all I agree with the raise with A-10o eventhough its a pretty weak hand, its a hand that needs to be played with a stack like yours.
I think you make the call eventhough playing A-10o in a multi-way pot is -EV. I can put the CO on a wide range of hands, but I would be looking for him to turn over two face cards, KQ,KJ,QJ,etc.., or a mid pocket pair and the SB given the comments he made I would put him on 2 suited connectors or mid pocket pair. Once the SB puts his money into the pot I think this call is pretty easy to make. You could be ahead, but if your not, you could always suck out!!! I make this call most of the time. |

BJJIII,
How can your post actually read "call this even though it is -ev. I'd put him on the following range, against which calling is +ev" ? |

Im just saying that playing A-10o in a multi-way is usually not a good idea, but given the situation I make the call. Your getting > 2.5:1 to knock out two players and be in a great shape to win the tourney.

My immediate thoughts were that I was dominated from the SB, which is mostly why I didn't like my hand anymore.
Upon further thinking, since the SB couldn't cover the CO's AI, I probably should call here with the existence of a side pot pretty close to the side of the main pot. I would have called either of them individually, but do you call a reraise AI and a call w/ A-10o? Is it nitty to fold here? |

I would probably fold AT assuming a normal SNG pay structure. If the payout is scewed heavily to first place I think it's probably fine to raise with antes. I think you have to fold.
I think you have to fold to the allin, I would be very surprised if you had more than 3 outs. |

Fold the first time round. Here you probably have to fold again, but it would be nice to know payout structure/reads/etc.

Fold the first time round. [/ QUOTE ] Are you serious? [ QUOTE ] Here you probably have to fold again, but it would be nice to know payout structure/reads/etc. [/ QUOTE ] Payout Structure is top 3 get paid with 1st and 2nd getting nice profits and 3rd getting 50% ROI. There is also a points structure at this game where you accumulate points based on where you finish over a 10 game period culminating in a tournament of champions where the top 6 point earners play a freeroll from money that has been put aside from each tournament. Not that that would skew your thinking but it does play some influence on your decisions. (I am current points leader after 2 sessions) Reads- See OP |
