Noob question about straddling
In a $1/$2 NL game, UTG straddles and puts in $4. If I want to raise, is the minimum to $6 or $8? Also, since it's no limit, can I straddle for more than 2x BB? If so, say I straddle for $8, is the minimum raise to $14 or $16?
Thanks |

Re: Noob question about straddling
Why would you want to raise the minimum anyway?

Re: Noob question about straddling
I know this is not the answer, but I never understood the straddle of the 1/2 game. The standard preflop raise at 1/2 at my casino is 15, so the straddle is a loser bet. Maybe at a 100/200 game it makes sense, bet at 1/2nl, I would ignore it and raise your standard 10 or 15 preflop.

Why would you want to raise the minimum anyway? [/ QUOTE ] I don't. But that is no reason for me not to understand the mechanics. That's also not to say that someone else wouldn't try to min raise me so I wanna know what is expected of him. Anyway, thanks for the strategy advice, but could someone please just answer the question? |

Re: Noob question about straddling
I would treat the straddle as a blind making the min raise double the straddle.

Re: Noob question about straddling
when someone straddles the min raise is equal to one big blind more. so in a 1-2nl game, if someone straddles you can legally open raise to 6 dollars. if you are doing a live straddle it must be double the big blind. you can make a blind raise to any amount in a nl game, but you will not have the option for action after the bb acts.

Re: Noob question about straddling
I think it's interesting how few replies we've got here. Probabaly because no one here would think of rasing the straddle a minimum amount. That's just a good way to get 8 callers.
I'd have to go with Randy's answer though. The live straddle is actually the big, big blind since it gets to act last so the min raise should be double the straddle. In a 1/2 game with a straddle to 4 the min raise should be to 8. |

Re: Noob question about straddling
I actually was told when I raised (and didnt notice there was a straddle on) at 1/2 NL game @ foxwoods today that it was acceptable when I raised to 6 (although not my initial intentions if I was aware of the straddle, of course).

Re: Noob question about straddling
A live straddle to 4 = 2 dollars on top of the big blind, so the minimum raise of a straddle would be $2 more, to $6. You can live straddle UTG to any amount, and the minimum raise is double what the amount is raised on top of the BB. So if someone straddles to $15, the minimum raise is to $28.
