I think since you raised on the flop and don't have position you should have just bet out on the turn instead of the double check raise. Since he bet after you checkraised him on the flop he probably has something decent here and might not fold.

If he has a hand that he is not ready to felt he would usually check behind on the turn for pot control. Especially a 16/11- so I think you are greatly over estimating your fold equity on the turn.
