Apathy style theory question - call or repot pre-flop
HU NLH. When you are first to act, you can do whatever you want. However, when you are second, you are given a choice. Every time your opponent does not fold, for every hand you decide to play, you have to do one of two things:
a) Never reraise, call every time. b) Always pot it. Note that you are allowed to fold as well. But you have to do either a) or b) every single time you play your hand after your opponent enters the pot. HU has long been my weakest game, so I've been focusing on learning it lately. I've tried both of these methods for fair chunks of time and have some thoughts on this, wanted to toss it out for all of you. I think this has relevance beyond just HU of course. |

Things like how deep you are and how good your opponent is factor in to this.

Re: Apathy style theory question - call or repot pre-flop
It totally depends on how bad the opponent is before and after the flop and how likely he is to shove over you. If they are terrible post flop and are likely to stack off light I am always going to choose A.
If they are excellent deep stack players post flop, I am going to choose b. |

Re: Apathy style theory question - call or repot pre-flop
I'm assuming one is still allowed to check behind if you choose b) (assuming checked to after flop), but that otherwise you have to raise any bet always?
I would pcik b) for sure. I've played someone who never called preflop out of position, and with 100-150BB stacks this was actually fairly annoying to play against. I never got to play in position with hands like 56[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] without playing a 3bet pot, which cut down on the implied odds a ton. With deeper stacks, being unable to call is going to kill you because 3betting with even fairly strong hands like AT is going to get you into a ton of trouble OOP and being unable to pot control will just exacerbate it. |

Re: Apathy style theory question - call or repot pre-flop
Against a bad player 3bet
If they're too passive they'll fold a lot to your 3bets or if they call your 3bets they'll fold when they miss flops. If they're too aggro they'll probably get stupid and start stacking off with garbage. |

Re: Apathy style theory question - call or repot pre-flop
if you always repot it, aren't you commiting the fatal sin of being OOP in bloated pots against (normally) good players? I dont think you can overcome the positional disadvantage if you always repotted.
