Default Pinnacle NHL Handicap confusion

For regulation handicap wagers, there is for example
Pittsburgh penguins +0.5 and carolina hurricanes -0.5, but this 0.5 won't change the outcome of the game. Say that carolina wins 2-1 and you bet on them winning by -0.5 they would still win 1.5 - 1
Why would anyone bet on the regulation time money line when the handicap spread seems to have better odds and appears to be the same thing.

Can anyone clear this up for me thanks a lot

If the final score is 2-2, the ML bet gets refunded.
