Default Admitting Netflix Defeat

I had Seven Samuri at my house since September.

This weekend I finally gave up and sent it back (I tend to watch DVDs in bed, half awake on weekend mornings, a 3 hour plus movie in subtitles just doesn't work).

When you netflix/blockbuster someting, are you always watching it, or do you sometimes just give up and send it back?

My wife and I have rented a bunch of movies and returned them without ever watching them. Sometimes, there's just no time.

DD,

Are these movies where you'd pay a late fee, or like Netflix, where if you want you can basically keep it forever?

It's one thing to say "I would rather not watch this than pay for it twice". It's another to say "I would rather watch some other movie in my cue (which isn't going to be as good as this piece of classic cinema) than this".

I had 3 movies from Netflix when I was in college that I didn't watch for like 4 months without ever returning them. About once a week, I'd see them, think about watching them, and convince myself that I'd watch them soon. For 4 months, I just ate the charges without replacing any of them, like a [censored] till I finally realized that I should cancel Netflix cause I wasn't using it enough.

Blockbuster doesn't have late fees but you "own" the movie after 14 days, or something. So we take them back before we have to pay the $30 to buy it.

LOL@30 bucks. Most are 14.99 at MOST. The very newest ones are like 19.99 and 21.99.

I've done this a bunch of times (rented something and then let it sit for a month+) and on a couple occasions did give up and send it back.

Dids, I do this once in a while, mainly with old "classics" that I don't really want to see but feel like I should, so I put them in my queue. Then when I get them I never watch them and eventually send them back. I did this recently with a Kurosawa flick. Blah blah he's a genius I know, but I find his movies just excruciating to watch so I always watch the other 3 movies I get instead. I did it before that with a Bergman flick.

edit : and yeah, it does feel like a "defeat" when I finally send it back. I have to admit that I like popcorn movies better than the classics. Curse you Hollywood, you've defeated me once again!
