Nice try, silly employee.
On a wonderfully clear day in Seattle, I'm sitting in my office overlooking the city and Lake Union getting some work done before I take a short dinner break when my employee interrupts my work with the following exchange:
Employee: How many boats are on the lake? Me: A good amount, I guess. *employee looks out* Him: There's almost none! Like 10 or so. I glance out my window at the lake. Me: Uh, there's at least 30. Let me do a quick count... yeah, at least 27 from what I can see. Him: Oh. * 20 minutes later * Employee: Do we get Memorial Day off as a holiday? Me: What, like, a paid holiday? Employee: Yeah. Me: If you can name the war that inspired the creation of Memorial Day, then yes. Employee: Umm.... World War II? Me: See you at 9 AM. |

Re: Nice try, silly employee.
My brother is in college and the professor said he'd give 10 pts. to anyone that knew why we celebrated Patriot's Day on April 19 (or third monday in April). Out of a class of 60+ only my brother and one other person knew what Patriot's Day was commemorating.
Maybe this only makes sense in MA. |

Re: Nice try, silly employee.
Hm, I didn't know the Memorial Day question. This is why I lose at Jeopardy (and life).

Re: Nice try, silly employee.
Is it bad that I had to wiki 'Memorial Day' to find out what war it was? I usually consider myself to be fairly knowledgeable.

[/ QUOTE ] It really has a lot less to do with what war it refers to and more about having the balls to request a minor holiday off and NOT KNOWING WHAT THE [censored] THE HOLIDAY IS FOR |
