Default fraternity rituals

I figured either google or wikipedia would help me out but no luck.

My roommate is a Sig Ep, and he just went through the Epsilon ritual, which I think is the final step of really becoming part of the fraternity. Besides the ritual being secret, they are apparently also made aware of various secrets, whatever that means. Sig Ep is the only fraternity at my school and I'm not into that kind of thing anyways, so I'm hoping that some ritualized 2+2 fraternity brothers can enlighten me a bit.

I'm not asking for any specifics (I don't know how serious people are about this [censored]), but what kind of secrets are there? Location of WMDs in Iraq type secrets or boy likes girl type secrets? And are rituals just beatings or brandings or the reciting of a few special words?

I was a sigep. All that stuff loses its pizazz a few years after graduating.

They idea of the rituals is to get your adrenaline up while teaching you a valuable lesson so you can remember it better.

Since Sigep is so big, meeting one isn't a big deal...but it got me into a few sweet parties at PSU. The password is shamalamadingdong.

Details? Why can't the value of this lesson be appreciated by non-members?

Is it that the ultimate burger flipper, Dave Thomas, founder or Wendy's was a Sig Ep?

Georgetown doesn't allow fraternities or something to that effect. There's Sig Ep and AEPi (jew frat which I forgot about) but I don't think they're official. Not really sure though, just that fraternities don't matter here at all.

One ritual that every greek organization will have is telling you what their letters actually stand for.

My chapter has a book with the rituals from most of the national fraternities. They all have one thing in common.

They are not nearly as cool as someone from the outside might think they are. The "rituals" are usually scripted from the national office, and are quite boring.

It's the things that happen before the rituals that you want to know about...which nobody would know except someone who is in that chapter of SigEp.
