Default Making a start in stud

I want to start playing stud online at lowlimits but don't know where to start.

I have been playing limit and nolimit holdem, online at low limits.

I would be grateful for any advice.

I'll assume that you've studied poker some and recommend Seven Card Stud for Advanced Players.

You might want to start a notch or two below your regular limit for limit hold'em. Read this board and post hands.

First, decide what game or games you want to learn. If you want to eventually learn all three popular Stud games, I strongly recommend not starting with Stud Hi, as Hi players often have a great deal of difficulty adjusting to Hi/Lo. Razz is the easiest of the three games to get good at.

If you want to learn all three games, start with Razz.
If you want to learn Hi and Razz, start with either.
If you want to learn Hi/Lo and Razz, start with Razz.
If you want to learn Hi and Hi/Lo, start with Hi/Lo.

For Hi, read Seven Card Stud for Advanced Players.
For Hi/Lo, read the section in Super System II and then High-Low Split Poker for Advanced Players.
For Razz, read Sklansky on Poker.

This statement here is interesting to me because it goes against my intuition. (I don't play much stud - but I like to dabble). Can you explain why this is true?

The part about HI->Hi/Lo being a lot harder than the other way around? I think it's because Hi players can't get over thinking QQx is a good hand, whereas it's really easy to figure out 642o isn't. Also, Hi/Lo players play occasional low-free hands, while Hi players can't play Hi/Lo-like hands.

Which statement? He made a bunch of them.

High-only stud players tend not to do very well in stud/8 because they overvalue high hands. Overvaluing high hands in stud/8 is hazardous to your bankroll.
