Default Somebody\'s watching you (or will be shortly, anyway)

And you thought they were done:

Through measures like this, the Patriot Act, and various DOJ initiatives America slowly collapses into a police state.

That's alright. I've retreated into a fantasy world where such problems don't exist.

The people pushing such laws are trying to catch a few criminals at the expense of everyone else's privacy. In my view that doesn't weigh up as fair or balanced. Infringing on everyone's privacy is far worse than a few criminals escaping capture. 300 million people's privacy to be endangered, perhaps perpetually, just to to catch a handful of criminals?

Just as bad, the people pushing such laws appear to have absolutely zero fear of a police state, and to have gained no clue from the history of the world. People like these lawmakers, as well as those in law enforcement who try to gain the legal right to go on "fishing expeditions"; and the "guilty-until-proven-innocent asset seizure and forfeiture" laws; and many other such things, have been moving in an ominous direction for quite some time and seem to have accelerated of late.

How many lawmakers, and how many in law enforcement, actually know that America's founding principles were to preserve freedom? America's founding purpose, America's raison-de-etre, was not to catch criminals, was it? Liberty not law enforcement is the guiding light of this great country's existence but sadly I doubt many of these politicians and officials realize that or even think about it.

America probably really and truly is the greatest country on Earth, BUT IF trends towards the police state continue apace, one day America WON'T any longer be the greatest country on Earth or even anywhere near the top.

The Founding Fathers must be turning over in their graves.

The Statue of Liberty is fast becoming the Statue of Law Enforcement.

No you thought they were done, I, for one, was never confused about it.
